Jeremy Lin Pokes Fun At Himself In ‘How To Fit In The NBA’ Video

NBA point guard Jeremy Lin showed off his sense of humor Wednesday with an online video about fitting in as a professional basketball player.

In the video “How to Fit in the NBA,” the 27-year-old Harvard University graduate poked fun at himself while sharing some of the tips and advice he has received from quite a few other players, including his former teammates.

“A lot of people ask me what it’s like to be in the NBA… Over the past few years, former teammates and friends have given me a lot of advice on what it’s like to fit in.”

Jeremy then covers several different categories of tips and advice that he has been given or had to learn about the hard way through awkward encounters with other NBA players.

Communication: “For example, first impressions are really important so it’s essential to understand greetings and basic communication.”

As seen in the video, Jeremy apparently struggled with such terms as “minute” and “fam” as well as phrases such as “You’re on 1.”

Sacrifice: “From there, it’s all about being sacrificial and doing the little things.”

When a fan approached him to take a picture, Jeremy had to find out the hard way that it was not an opportunity to take a picture with a fan. The fan actually just needed Jeremy to operate the camera while to take a picture of him with DeAndre Jordan from the Los Angeles Clippers.

Fashion: “Because we’re always in the public spotlight, it’s crucial to look the part and understand fashion.”

Tyson Chandler, a current center with the Phoenix Suns, refused to go anywhere with Jeremy Lin until he changed his outfit. After multiple outfit changes, Tyson apparently approved a tight pants look of sorts, which actually looked quite foolish on the former Los Angeles Lakers point guard.

Culture: “Equally important is to understand the culture of the NBA. You know? Like dancing and music.”

Jeremy received valuable instructions and “Nae-Nae” dance lessons from Dwight Howard via Skype. That is, of course, until Jeremy offended the 29-year-old Houston Rockets center after responding to Dwight’s comment about his “chocolate shoulders.”

He also walked into an awkward situation with Stephen Curry while trying to recite a lyric from a popular rap song by Y.G. without using the N-word.

Perhaps his closing statement was one of the biggest highlights of the entire video.

“Don’t get me wrong. It’s taken me a while to become this cool, which means it shouldn’t be that much a problem to fit in with my new Charlotte teammates.”

Jeremy Lin then walks into the locker room to greet Kemba Walker — the starting point guard of the Charlotte Hornets, Jeremy’s new team.

Wearing tight pants and high socks, as well as an Adidas headband and T-shirt, Jeremy tried to apply some of the advice he received when it came to culture and communication — but failed miserably.

“How to Fit in the NBA” is one of 22 different videos featured on Jeremy Lin’s official YouTube channel. In addition to his popular “A Day in the Life” series, another popular video in his growing collection is the viral comedy video titled “You Changed Bro.”
