DeVry University Professor Holds Toddler While Giving Lecture, Photo Goes Viral
A DeVry University professor is the latest internet sensation after a picture of him holding a toddler during his lecture went viral.
Now more than ever, colleges all across the country are enlisting students who have children, so when you don’t have a babysitter, you bring the child with you. This is exactly what happened in Nashville when a DeVry University professor picked up Amanda Osbon’s baby and continued with his lecture.
Osbon — who is a single mother — told WKRN-TV her sitter cancelled at the last-minute, so she had no choice but to bring her son to class with her. At first, she was embarrassed when the toddler got out of her reach and walked up to the DeVry University professor Joel Bunkowske, who was in the middle of his lecture.
However, she shouldn’t have worried. To her and the entire class’ surprise, Bunkowske didn’t skip a beat, casually picked up the boy, and continued with the business at hand. Osbon said the DeVry University professor “was amazing, patient and kind.”
“Most of us in the class are parents, so everyone was very understanding that he was there,” Osbon wrote to News 2 and added the child seemed to be interested in being held by the DeVry University professor.
Despite being embarrassed by her 2-year-old son’s actions, Osbon said professor Bunkowske put her at ease telling her everyone struggles in life and it is okay. The photo of the DeVry University professor holding the toddler while giving his lecture has been shared thousands of times on Facebook and other social media sites, and Bunkowske is being praised for his act of kindness.
One of those recognizing the DeVry University professor is television personality Adryenn Ashley, who posted this message on Facebook, which reads in part.
“As a single mom I’ve had to take my kiddo to events, board meetings, and mixers, and everyone has always made me feel welcome and that my son (who is a handful, albeit exceptional) is also welcome. That acceptance has opened more doors that I could have imagined. Not feeling like I wasn’t good enough because I had to tote kiddo around, that gave him an early glimpse at what being an entrepreneur really means. ?#?NoBarriesToEntry?.
“This professor deserves a huge round of applause! Now go out and make this someones awesomest day!”
The now-famous DeVry University professor is a local lawyer who teaches at the school’s Keller Graduate School of Management, according to For Every Mom.
