George Strait Releasing New Album “Cold Beer Conversation,” Will Play Las Vegas In 2016

Country music legend George Strait announced on Tuesday, September 22 that he would be releasing a new album and would be performing in Las Vegas in 2016.

According to the Associated Press, Strait made the announcement that he would be performing four shows at the MGM Resorts’ new Las Vegas Arena when it opens next year. The shows will take place in the 20,000-seat arena on April 22-23 and September 9-10. Strait also revealed his new album was set to be released. Cold Beer Conversations will be available on iTunes and at Walmart stores starting on Friday, September 25.

Despite the Las Vegas shows, George Strait made it clear that this wasn’t a re-emergence from retirement. He recently concluded his record-setting “Cowboy Rides Away” tour, announcing at the time that it would be his last big tour. However, he said he will continue to produce albums and play occasional gigs.

“Some people that I have told that I’d be doing some dates in Vegas in 2016 at the Las Vegas Arena, they go: `Well, you retired. I thought you retired.’ Ooh, I just wanna grab `em and shake `em. I never said that,” he said.

“I can’t say that I miss the touring, and I didn’t miss that part of it, but I still do miss the performing part. I’m going to take care of that here in a few months,” Strait told USA Today.

The new album will feature a song with his son Bubba called “Everything I See.” George said the song was inspired by his 91-year-old father, John Byron Strait, in 2013.

“I’m so proud he took an interest in the music business,” Strait said of his son. “For the longest time, he didn’t. His focus was rodeo. That’s all he wanted to do. Once he decided to move on, he decided to get into music. He took it pretty seriously and pushed me back into writing songs, as well.”

The titles of the songs on Cold Beer Conversations are below.

  1. “It Was Love”
  2. “Cold Beer Conversations”
  3. “Let It Go”
  4. “Goin’ Goin’ Gone”
  5. “Something Going Down”
  6. “Take Me To Texas”
  7. “It Takes All Kinds”
  8. “Stop And Drink”
  9. “Everything I See”
  10. “Rock Paper Scissors”
  11. “Wish You Well”
  12. “Cheaper Than A Shrink”

Tickets for the Las Vegas shows will go on sale October 20 for $75-$200. Kacey Musgraves will be serving as the show opener.

“I like Kacey. I think it’s a good mix to have a female artist up there,” he said. “I just have always liked that combination. Kacey’s a very talented singer-songwriter. And she’s from Texas.”
