‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 12 — The Buzziest Premiere This Fall According To Twitter

The upcoming season of Grey’s Anatomy is officially the most mentioned television series on Twitter. According to Wet Paint, the medical drama managed to garner over over two million tweets over the course of the summer months, bumping it up from the sixth most talked about show in 2014 to the top spot in this year.

The news is not all that surprising as many fans are likely eager to find out which direction the show will take now that Dr. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) is no long a part of the series. With so many questions still up in the air, including how Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) will handle losing her husband as she tries to move on with her life, it isn’t a wonder that fans are expressing their excitement on social media.

At the same time, Shonda Rhimes has been particularly active on social media this year, promoting several of her shows as they get closer to their premiere dates. Perhaps her work has paid off, as fans are taking to Twitter to find out the latest spoilers about the upcoming season.

Grey’s Anatomy enjoys the top spot in the social media sphere, and it managed to beat out a number of other shows, including Supernatural, The Walking Dead, The Vampire Diaries, and Once Upon a Time.

It is interesting to note that around 90 percent of the messages on Twitter related to TV series referenced shows that were returning to television. That being said, brand new shows that received the most tweets included American Horror Story: Hotel, Scream Queens, The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Supergirl, and Heroes Reborn.

At the same time, the posts concerning this coming lineup of fall TV shows are up some 34 percent from the numbers last year. Impressively, there were over 21 million posts about upcoming shows this year alone. Clearly, fans are excited about the shows that are gearing up to premiere, and they can only hope that this translates into some form of success for their favorite shows.

If the numbers are of any value, then fans of Grey’s Anatomy should have nothing to worry about as far as the show’s longevity is concerned. As far as the storyline goes, however, we’ll just have to wait and see where Rhimes takes it in the upcoming season.

Season 12 of Grey’s Anatomy is set to premiere September 24 on ABC.
