When last we heard from Allison Williams, she was postponing her impending nuptials with beau Ricky Van Veen in order to better devote her time and attention to defending her famous newsman father, Brian Williams. Allison made that announcement back in February and since then, she hadn’t followed up with any kind of timeline as to when the couple might return to setting a date to walk down the aisle.
It turns out that Allison Williams and her now-husband decided it would be better to go ahead and get married without anyone knowing it was coming. According to ABC News, the couple married on Saturday at a private and unannounced ceremony at the Brush Creek Ranch in Saratoga, Wyoming. While the couple didn’t announce the ceremony to the public, Allison Williams clearly let her closest friends know, judging by the star-studded guest list. Among those who attended were Girls co-stars Lena Dunham, Jemima Kirke, and Zosia Mamet. Others in attendance included Katy Perry, John Mayer, Bruce Springsteen, Diane von Furstenberg, and Seth Meyers.
People Magazine reports that famous guest list didn’t stop there. Superstar actor Tom Hanks actually officiated Allison Williams and Ricky Van Veen’s ceremony, while his wife, Rita Wilson, looked on. Wilson plays Allison William’s mother in HBO’s Girls. Reports indicate that the plans of the ceremony were kept as hush-hush as possible, with not even the guests getting all the information. One source said that, “Guests were asked to fly into Denver, where they would be driven around three hours to the wedding location, but nobody knew where it was going to be.” Despite the fact that the couple weren’t willing to spill the beans beforehand, a representative for Allison Williams was willing to confirm the wedding took place on Saturday night — once it was over.
The couple had been engaged since February of 2014, and by all accounts, Van Veen understood why the wedding had been put off when Allison Williams made the decision to delay. The relationship between the actress and her father is apparently still plenty strong, considering those who attended the event said he walked her down the aisle. A relative unknown just a few years ago, the anchor’s daughter has risen to prominence thanks to her role on Girls. Allison Williams’ new husband has a background in comedy as well, as he is the founder of the website CollegeHumor.
