The media continues to enjoy pitting two powerful women against each other, as Katy Perry and Taylor Swift are the latest feuding subjects. This time, Rihanna has been brought into the mix. It all started when NME reported that Rihanna would not join Taylor Swift on stage.
“Rihanna does not see herself joining the list of people to appear with Swift. Speaking to NME for the cover feature of the all-new free magazine, distributed in more than 500 locations on Friday, September 18, Rihanna says: ‘I don’t think I would. I just don’t think it makes sense.’ “
Now, sources such as the International Business Times are claiming Katy Perry is the reason why Rihanna won’t appear on stage with Taylor Swift. Nobody mentions whether or not Taylor Swift even asked Rihanna in the first place. Even before Rihanna was brought into the picture, it was reported that Taylor Swift was obsessed with beating Katy Perry. Fox News bought into the rumor.
“Taylor Swift is ‘obsessed’ with getting more No. 1 hits than Katy Perry and is making an aggressive push to get songs from her album ‘1989’ promoted to beat her pop rival’s record.”
Fox News adds that Taylor Swift wants seven No. 1 hits. Since Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream tied Michael Jackson’s Bad for having five No. 1 singles, Taylor wants to beat her. If this is true, Taylor Swift will have a very hard time, as her latest single, “Wildest Dreams,” only moves up from No. 15 to No. 12 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 this week — not a sign of another No. 1 single. Taylor Swift’s previous singles “Bad Blood,” “Blank Space,” and “Shake It Off” have hit No. 1, but she is far from tying Katy Perry and Michael Jackson’s record.
It appears that the Taylor Swift and Katy Perry feud began when Katy Perry allegedly stole some of Taylor Swift’s dancers. TMZ broke the news last September.
“Taylor Swift believes Katy Perry is a thief… and we’ve learned that’s the basis of their feud. The girl-on-girl war ignited when 3 of Taylor’s dancers jumped ship and joined Katy’s tour. Taylor felt betrayed because she became very close to the dancers and considered them family.”
TMZ added that those dancers actually worked for Katy Perry in the first place, and when Perry’s Teenage Dream Tour ended several years ago, they started working with Taylor Swift. Neither have publicly commented on the feud, which appears to be legit, even if stories based on the feud may not be true. Whose side are you on — Katy Perry or Taylor Swift’s?
