Bella Bond: Dad Insists Child’s Mom Would Never Hurt Her — Says He Already Knew Of Girl’s Death

The biological dad of Bella Bond, the previously unidentified Boston two-year-old who was found dead and known only as “Baby Doe” for three months, spoke out on Saturday, offering a defense of Rachelle Bond — and admitting that he learned how the daughter he never knew had been murdered, but did nothing about it even though he was “sickened” by the news, The Boston Globe reported on Sunday.

The little girl’s partially decomposed body was found on a Boston-area beach, stuffed into a trash bag, on June 23. For three months, police investigators labored to identify “Baby Doe,” finally announcing on Friday that they had solved the mystery — that the little girl’s name was Bella Bond and that her mother and her mother’s live-in lover had been arrested in connection with her murder.

Rachelle Bond, 40, (pictured above, left) was charged only with accessory to murder. She reportedly told police that she walked in on her boyfriend, 35-year-old Michael McCarthy, repeatedly punching the toddler in the stomach because he believed she was “possessed.”

Those blows to the stomach, authorities say, caused the death of Bella Bond.

But, Bella’s father, Joseph Amoroso — who says he never met his daughter, other than briefly speaking to her on the phone, when she was able to say the word “kitty” — told Boston TV station WHDH that he does not believe that the girl’s mother is responsible for Bella’s death.

“I know with all my heart that Rachelle would never do anything to hurt anybody,” Amoroso said. “I was with the woman. This is the mother of my child.”

Amoroso (pictured above, right), who according to the Globe report has an eight-page criminal rap sheet in Florida, says that he met Bond when they were both homeless and their child’s conception took place inside a tent at an Occupy Boston demonstration.

He quickly departed, he said, upon learning about Bond’s drug and prostitution record. But, he came back to Boston several weeks ago, with the intention of establishing a relationship with his daughter. Bond, for some reason, was evasive and insisted that the child was out of town with relatives.

Eventually, he told the paper, she broke down and told the truth.

“Our daughter is dead,” she told him, according to Amoroso’s account. “The guy that’s been living in my house murdered our daughter.”

But even though Amoroso and Bond discussed reporting their daughter’s murder to authorities, they chose instead to do nothing.

McCarthy, who has been charged with the murder of Bella Bond, remains hospitalized due to complications of heroin addiction.
