Ed Sheeran Experiments With Hip Hop Again, Covers Tory Lanez’s ‘Say It’

It’s evident that Ed Sheeran likes to keep busy. In fact, a day off never exactly seems to be a day of rest for the 24-year-old British pop star.

That was the case on Saturday, when instead of taking the day off to relax on his own, Sheeran decided to record a cover of Tory Lanez’s hip hop song “Say It.”

Sheeran is currently on a world tour promoting music from his x album. He’s been touring since August of 2014.

Soon after recording the “Say It” cover, Sheeran shared the news via Twitter, and he made the song available for free via Sound Cloud. Sheeran’s version of the song is recorded with an acoustic guitar.

It seems as if Tory Lanez was happy with Sheeran’s work, as he quickly responded to Sheeran’s tweet:

Responses to Sheeran’s cover from others seemed to be pretty positive, too. Hot New Hip Hop, for example, said that Sheeran had done a better job of covering “Say It” than he had with Fetty Wap’s “Trap Queen.” Sheeran did a cover of “Trap Queen” earlier this summer.

Sheeran is known to be a fan of hip hop and has said in the past that rapping to an Eminem album helped him overcome a childhood stutter. It comes as no surprise that Sheeran decided to cover a hip hop song on his day off.

Have you listened to Ed Sheeran’s cover of “Say It” yet? What did you think? Do you think it’s better or worse than Sheeran’s “Trap Queen” cover?
