Details have started coming out about Resident Evil: The Final Chapter in small doses, but never a lot at one time. Finally now, the cast has been revealed for the film and so has the official plot synopsis for the movie that is set to end it all and put a stop (maybe) to the Umbrella Corporation.
The next film in the Resident Evil franchise is officially in production and the cast is once again being led by Milla Jovovich who is back as Alice. According to Collider, the cast also includes Iain Glen, Shawn Roberts, and Ruby Rose from the hit series Orange is the New Black.
Others that will round out the cast of Resident Evil: The Final Chapter will be William Levy, Fraser James, Eoin Macken, and a Japanese model and television personality named Rola.
Along with the cast being revealed, the official plot synopsis has also been put out there for Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. It’s not entirely sure if this will be the end of the franchise as a whole, but the synopsis at least makes it seem as if the current incarnation of it will end after this.
“Picking up immediately after the events in Resident Evil: Retribution, humanity is on its last legs after Alice is betrayed by Wesker in Washington D.C. As the only survivor of what was meant to be humanity’s final stand against the undead hordes, Alice must return to where the nightmare began – Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is gathering its forces for a final strike against the only remaining survivors of the apocalypse.
“In a race against time Alice will join forces with old friends, and an unlikely ally, in an action packed battle with undead hordes and new mutant monsters. Between losing her superhuman abilities and Umbrella’s impending attack, this will be Alice’s most difficult adventure as she fights to save humanity, which is on the brink of oblivion.”
It certainly appears as if this could be the final film in the Resident Evil franchise, but stranger things have happened.
Lately on the set, the focus has been elsewhere. As reported by Yahoo! News a recent on-set accident resulted in serious head injuries to a stuntwoman. Milla Jovovich said she was “totally devastated” by the accident which caused serious injuries to 32-year-old Olivia Jackson.
Jackson ran into a metal camera arm while riding a motorcycle in early September, and she has since been put into a medically-induced coma for recovery. Hospital staff is said to be carefully monitoring her status as she recovers.
Some say it is a miracle that she survived at all and her husband David Grant, a stuntman himself, said “she’s fighting hard.”
Resident Evil: The Final Chapter looks as if things will finally end for either the human race or for Umbrella, but at least now, fans know more. With the plot synopsis and cast list revealed, the film can carry on production toward its release in early 2017.
