The two clubs last met on August 2 in the pre-season FA Community Shield, pitting the league champions against the previous season’s FA Cup winners, Arsenal. The Gunners came away with the shield, winning 1-0. But in recent league meetings, Chelsea has the upper hand, beating Arsene Wenger’s side three times with three draws in the last six confrontations.
Arsenal has not scored a Premier League goal against Chelsea in 392 minutes of play, going back to January 20 of 2013. But this is a different Chelsea club, one which headed into Match Week Six find themselves in the unfamiliar 17th position on the table with just one win and four points from their first five league matches.

But Arsenal traveled to Croatia to face perennial Croatian champions Dinamo Zagreb — who proceeded to stun Wenger’s team 2-1. To make matters worse, the Gunners did not land back in London until the early dawn hours of Thursday morning.
“I don’t use that as an excuse,” Wenger said in a press conference later Thursday. “I believe we are in a position where we can perform.”
