Can ‘Vampire Diaries’ Survive After Nina Dobrev’s Exit If Ian Somerhalder Quits For ‘Fifty Shades’ Sequel? [Video]

The Vampire Diaries at risk for survival? It sucks, but some say Vampire Diaries just might be ready to take its last bite out of the constant ratings war. However, there’s still some hope the vampires can rise from their coffins, reports E News.

The concern for The Vampire Diaries‘ survival stems from the farewell to Nina Dobrev, who plays Elena. While Elena has not been killed, the show still needs to move on without her, at least for now. And the fearsome flash-forward that provided a vision of Mystic Falls in misery last season could cause some challenges.

It all hinges on what happens after Elena has left. Prepare yourself for time travel, both to the past and into the future, as the plot also unfolds in the villain-plagued present, Mystic Falls struggles.

Although that all sounds like the characters won’t be having Disneyland-style fun, the drama should help The Vampire Diaries to continue pleasing its fans.

There’s just one concern, and that’s with Ian Somerhalder, who has been rumored to go from fifty shades of vampires to the Fifty Shades Of Grey sequel, reports Franchise Herald.

The film sequel, Fifty Shades Darker introduces Mrs. Robinson and Jack Hyde, and it’s the latter character who Ian Somerhalder might portray. Whether that means Somerhalder would leave The Vampire Diaries, that’s the question with the sharpest fangs.

And one possible problem regarding Ian Somerhalder and his future in Mystic Falls concerns his new wife, Nikki Reed, reports Realty Today.

Somerhalder’s reported contemplation of exiting the show has to do with Reed, who is reportedly worried about the possibility that Nina Dobrev could return to The Vampire Diaries. Dobrev and Somerhalder dated previously, and the idea that they might work together again is reportedly giving Reed a reason to fret and fume.

The romance between Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev lasted for three years. Dobrev and Reed were friends until — after Dobrev and Somerhalder broke up — he started dating Reed. The relationship ended the friendship between the two women.

Regarding Fifty Shades Darker, Reed is seemingly enthusiastic about the possibility that Ian could move into movies with the role.

But should Nikki Reed really be worried that Nina Dobrev might return to The Vampire Diaries?

When Dobrev left her role as Elena, she told The Hollywood Reporter that she felt her time on the vampire show had run its course.

“I knew this was my time, and I’m excited for the next step,” said Nina. “It’s been a great journey, but at the end of the day, I’m not actually a vampire. The fairy tale has to end.”
