Jimmy Nelson suffered a scary injury on Thursday, with video showing the Milwaukee Brewers pitcher being hit in the head with a line drive.
The injury occurred when St. Louis Cardinals batter Tommy Pham hit a ball that caught Nelson in the back of the head, sending the ball down the line. Pham ended up with a double, but was visibly shaken as Jimmy Nelson fell to the ground.
Nelson remained on the ground for a minute while medical staff rushed out to check on him. After a few minutes he was able to sit up, drawing an ovation from the crowd.
The pitcher ended up being taken to a hospital overnight.

So far hospital tests indicate that Jimmy Nelson did not suffer a serious injury, and it appears to just be a contusion.
“I don’t think it’s easy for anybody to see. It wasn’t good. We’re fortunate he was able to walk off the field,” said Brewers manager Craig Counsell.
Pham said the play was so frightening to see that he almost forgot about the game.
“You see it go off his head, the first thing that went through my head was, ‘Oh no, is he all right?”` Pham said, via ESPN. “I had to kind of remind myself to run.”
The play was reminiscent of another scary moment. Back in 2013, Toronto Blue Jays pitcher JA Happ was hit in the head with a line drive, with the ball then caroming to the bullpen and allowing two runners to score.
Happ lay motionless and bleeding from his head while medical staff attended to him. He was taken to a hospital but like Nelson avoided major injury.
“I feel very fortunate,” Happ told reporters before Wednesday’s game. “The whole baseball community has been unbelievable with the messages I’m receiving, things people are sending and all the prayers. It looks like I moved just a little bit. I don’t remember doing that, but just enough to where it caught me on a better spot (instead of) head-on.”
The Brewers have not yet said how long Nelson could be out after his injury on Thursday. He will reportedly remain in the hospital overnight while he undergoes more testing.
