John Davis Faces $500 Fine For Giving Money To Panhandler

John Davis was just trying to help a homeless person out when he gave money to a man in a wheelchair at a freeway off ramp. Unfortunately, the phrase, “No good deed goes unpunished” came true for the Ohio resident when a cop pulled him over minutes later, issuing him a $500 ticket for littering from his car.

John, however, contests that he did not litter. Instead, one of the bills he handed the panhandler dropped on the ground, and the man outside the car bent down to pick it up. Because of this, Davis is facing a $500 fine over dropping a $1 bill, according to The Huffington Post.

Davis’s family is hard-working, and enjoys random acts of kindness that give back to people in need. He stated, according to Fox 8 that:

“I think we’re all to help the less fortunate.”

When he saw the man on the side of the road in a wheelchair, holding a religious sign asking for help, John Davis stated he helped because:

“I have a brother that’s paralyzed. My brother’s in that same situation and struggles.”

Davis told World Net Daily that a Cleveland police cruiser pulled him over just minutes later. the officer approached his car and Davis stated:

“He proceeds to tell me he’s pulling me over for littering.”

The ticket Davis received cited Section No. 613.06 of Cleveland’s Municipal Codes, which covers littering from a motor vehicle. the officer listed his offense as, “Throw paper out window (money to panhandler).”

John Davis states that he still respects the Cleveland police department, but told Fox 8 that:

“I don’t mean any disrespect toward the police department at all we need ‘em but I just wish I didn’t have to pay this ticket.”

When asked if he would consider doing the same thing again, Davis replied with:

“I’d like to do it again but I’m petrified I’m going to get a ticket.”

Do you think that the Cleveland police department has any grounds to give John Davis a ticket for dropping a $1 bill while giving a homeless stranger money?
