Manu Bennett, ‘Arrow’ And ‘Hobbit’ Actor, Arrested For Assault In Texas

Manu Bennett of Arrow and Hobbit fame was arrested for an incident in Texas on Saturday. The charge was assault and the event was the Alamo City Comic Con, where he had been billed as a celebrity guest.

Manu is known for his villainous roles, playing the DC Comics mercenary Deathstroke, as well as the Azog, King of the Orcs. As Deathstroke, or Slade Wilson as his legal identity lies in the comics, he plays a character whose command of combat is almost unequaled. The character was even the inspiration for one of Marvel’s most famous comedic anti-heroes, Deadpool. It was even revealed that Deadpool was a direct parody of Deathstroke, with some special powers and a knack for nonstop talking to make him different.

Azog the Defiler was initially only mentioned by Gandalf in The Hobbit’s original book, but the films turned him into a regular villain.

Playing both is an actor whose drunken shenanigans almost mirror his villainous roles. Manu Bennett had been at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio hotel when the Los Angeles Times says he started staring down party guests. The trouble officially hit when Manu had allegedly caused a scene with 29-year-old Craig Brown. According to USA Today, the actor stared him down, and Brown said “What?” Bennett responded by allegedly punching Craig in the face, knocking him to the floor, and leaving him with a broken and bloodied nose.

Manu’s drunkenness resulted in him being asked to leave the party at the hotel on Saturday. On his way out, he allegedly assaulted on Craig Brown.

Brown has expressed that he wants to press charges against Manu Bennett. After Manu’s agent led the police to his hotel room, the actor was questioned and said he doesn’t remember anything, but apparently believes he was defending himself.

Bennett has not commented on the incident publicly.

According to My San Antonio, the official report on the incident says it was much more than a simple stare-down and punch.

“[Bennett] agreed to leave the room but before leaving [he] picked up a chair and was laughing at the situation. [A witness] stated that everyone in the room thought [Bennett] was playing around but several seconds later [he] set the chair on the floor and started to stare everyone down.”

It is unknown what may have sparked Manu Bennett’s San Antonio hotel shenanigans, but alcohol had allegedly been greatly involved.
