Jamie Lee Curtis summoned up her courage to channel her mother’s iconic shower scene for her new role in Scream Queens. Jamie Lee is garnering lots of positive buzz in taking on the challenge, which lets Curtis make the most of her horror film history, thanks to Ryan Murphy’s wacky wizardry, reported MSN.
And an unexpected perk for Jamie Lee is that she can now reflect the influence that her mom, actress Janet Leigh, had on her life. Leigh is best known for that terrifying shower scene in the nightmare-inducing Psycho.
“My entire life I have refused to step into the shower because it belongs to my mother,” admitted Curtis. “I have attempted to step out of the shadow of my parents for a long time.”
However, despite that resolution, Jamie Lee decided that Scream Queens provided her with the perfect opportunity to overcome that hesitation.
Curtis regards it as serendipity.
“It felt like they’re both gone, and enough time has passed,” mused Jamie Lee. “This role has appeared in my life. It’s unexpected and delightful.”
You won’t see Curtis’ shower scene until later in the season, which lasts for 15 episodes. But Jamie Lee shared it on social media now at the request of Murphy.
“As soon as Ryan saw that picture, he said put it out. So I did,” said Jamie Lee.
Curtis and the rest of the Scream Queens cast debut at 8 p.m. on Sept. 22 on Fox.
And although Jamie Lee, who plays the role of Dean Cathy Munsch, is an essential factor in what Fox hopes will be a scary success, other well-known actresses are joining Curtis to contribute to the campy charm, reported Variety.
From the Kappa Kappa Tau sorority house to a killer sneaking around on the campus, Scream Queens takes on the challenge of weaving suspense with wit. Among those portraying characters along with Jamie Lee are Emma Roberts, Ariana Grande, Nick Jonas, Lea Michele, and Billie Lourd.
But it’s Curtis about whom Ryan Murphy, famed for turning Glee into a hot hit, is especially enthusiastic.
“She’s everything you would want her to be,” declared Murphy. “She gets to be funny, and she also gets to be unexpectedly sexy. I love that she’s having an affair with Emma Roberts’ boyfriend (in the show). I feel like I made a really good friend in the process, too.”
Ryan also had worked with Lea Michele on Glee and was delighted to provide her with the chance to show a different side.
“Lea is beautiful and a star, but people don’t know the funny, weird side of her,” said Murphy.
Michele in turn expressed her respect for Jamie Lee.
“More than being an incredible actress, [Curtis is] the best leader we could have. She sets the tone for positivity and hard work. When you have a big machine like this, having the one center person be on their game and humble is important.”
The cast also regards Jamie Lee as their unofficial mom, and Curtis admits that working with these young people brings out her inner mothering side.
