Kanye West’s ‘Yeezy Season 2’ Devastates Designers At New York Fashion Week 2015

In his announcement, Kanye West revealed that Yeezy Season 2, an Adidas Originals Collection, would be unveiled in a show at noon on September 16.

Kanye’s participation at New York Fashion Week may have surprised a lot of people, but it certainly shocked fashion designers Anne Bowen and Naeem Khan.

According to Women’s Wear Daily, West’s show is scheduled at the same time Anne Bowen is launching Nomad VII, also a streetwear collection similar to West’s Yeezy. Naem Khan’s show is also scheduled in the same time slot. The designer expressed her grievance with Yeezy.

“Kanye knows he is a media sensation and it is just not ethical to do this. It’s like we are David and he is Goliath. We have put our heart and soul into our show, and should not be stepped on like this.”

Kanye West also failed to notify the Council of Fashion Designers in America that he will be presenting his new collection on September 16.

“The first I heard about the Kanye show was what I read in the post,” said Steven Kolb, CFDA President.

Kolb continued that the scheduling conflicts happened because West’s show wasn’t listed in the Fashion Calendar. CFDA has already reached out to Adidas’ PR group in the hopes of sorting things out.

Anna Bowen also told FOX411 that Kanye West’s announcement devastated her because it adversely affects her in so many ways. She also added that she had tried to reach out to Kanye West’s group and has yet to receive a reply from them. Bowen continued to complain.

“I am completely devastated, angered and bewildered! This affects us financially, attendance-wise and in all ways. Our media will go to zero if we don’t completely move our show time and there are no other time slots available that day.”

A spokesperson for Bowen also told WWD that although they were able to move Bowen’s show to a later date, they have been going through difficulties. They had to deliver new press invites and pay for additional booking fees in order to accommodate Kanye West’s show, the rep shared.

Designer Naeem Khan, however, decided to proceed with his show as planned. He will be presenting his eveningwear collection at the The Arc at Skylight at Moynihan Station.

Despite the criticisms, Kanye West’s last-minute show is going on as scheduled. In a recent tweet, Kanye West revealed that Yeezy Season 2 would be streamed to select theaters across the globe.
