Since the Season 5 finale of HBO’s Game of Thrones, fans have been wondering whether Jon Snow lives or dies. WARNING: This article contains potential spoilers about Season 6 of HBO’s Game of Thrones. please proceed with caution if you have not yet watched all available episodes.

For months now, HBO has been letting anyone who will listen — including the U.S. president, Barack Obama – that Jon Snow is dead. Kit Harington, the actor who plays Jon Snow, has also backed up HBO by saying his character is dead, yet the rumors persisted. Mostly this was because the Game of Thrones fan base had already sided with the R + L = J theory that sees Jon Snow as one of the end game contenders to legitimately inherit the iron throne thanks to his currently hidden parentage. However, now thanks to a recent interview with Belgian magazine Humo, the fate of Jon Snow may have been leaked.

Game of Thrones Season 5 finale Jon Snow

The following translated pieces of information have been confirmed as the correct translation by both Dutch Reddit user the_narc_died and Huffington Post. The first quote came after the magazine asked Kit Harington about what it was like working on Game of Thrones, to which he initially replied that it was “like a double-edged sword” because it both game him regular work but inhibited him from perusing other acting jobs. He then followed up with a statement.

“The important thing is that I now know exactly how long I am still under contract, and in the meantime — “

Being under contract with HBO does not actually mean Jon Snow will survive into Season 6, but it does suggest he will be back to film some scenes — even if they are just death scenes or flashbacks. The second quote, however, leads to more evidence that Jon Snow will survive his attack by the Night’s Watch in the Season 5 finale of Game of Thrones.

“Let’s just say that Game of Thrones will remain a part of my life for a while; I’ll probably be in my 30s when it’s over. One thing’s for sure: the day I’m no longer on Thrones is the day I’ll bury myself in movie projects [laughs].”

This answer came after the Humo interviewer asked just how long his contract lasted for. While Harington threw off the question with a typical “Nice try” comment, he then followed on with the above quote. Just so you know, Vanity Fair points out Kit Harington turns 30 in December 2016, leaving plenty of time for Jon Snow to survive the Season 5 finale and then go on to claim the iron throne. However, Vanity Fair also points out that Humo listed this interview as “recent” yet, as yet, have not stated exactly when the interview was conducted.

So it seems the fate of Jon Snow is still unsure. And, as this recent Inquisitr article points out, HBO are not above practical jokes when it comes to Game of Thrones fans. So, still, we will have to wait until Season 6 to find out the real fate of Jon Snow.

Game of Thrones returns to HBO for Season 6 in 2016.
