Hailey Dunbar-Blanchette Update: Suspect Arrested But Tot Remains Missing

The search for missing child Hailey Dunbar-Blanchette is continuing into the second day since an AMBER Alert was issued in her disappearance. However, there are new developments in her case. CTV News out of Vancouver reports that a suspect has been arrested in the alleged kidnapping of the 2-year-old girl and the murder of her father.

Authorities confirm that a 22-year-old man has been arrested, but 2-year-old Hailey remains missing. This is a worrisome detail in the search for the child, which has lasted approximately two days. An AMBER Alert remains in effect as the search continues for the tot, but public sentiment in the wake of the latest developments appears to be pessimistic. Nonetheless, authorities in Canada are hopeful that they can recover the missing 2-year-old child safe and alive.

Global News Canada reports that a white van has also been located in connection with the kidnapping of Hailey Dunbar-Blanchette. The 22-year-old suspect is not currently being identified in the media while authorities continue searching for little Hailey. What’s more, the man has not yet been charged with any crimes, but he is the prime suspect in the murder of Hailey’s father and her kidnapping.

A spokesman with the RCMP is encouraging the public to continue looking for Hailey while the AMBER Alert remains in effect.

“The Amber Alert is still in effect with respect to locating this white van and we are looking forward to information from public with regards to the investigation, whether has to do with the homicide aspect, the van or the disappearance of Hailey.”

The Huffington Post reports that the unidentified suspect was arrested in Blairmore — approximately 30 minutes from the scene of the kidnapping and the murder of the missing child’s father.

Authorities are still asking that members of the public call the RCMP in Crowsnest with any information that may prove useful in locating Hailey Dunbar-Blanchette. Any information regarding the murder of her father is also being sought.
