Woman Found Guilty Of Wearing Fake Penis, Impersonating Man To Sexually Assault Blind-Folded Female Friend For Two Years

Gayle Newland has been found guilty of sexually assaulting her blindfolded female friend over a two-year period by wearing a fake penis.

According to the Mirror, Newland the unnamed woman had sex around 10 times during this time, but it was only until the final occasion that the complainant realised that the man she thought she was having sex with was actually a woman wearing a prosthetic penis. This became apparent after she pulled off her blindfold to find a woman standing there naked wearing the sexual instrument.

Matthew Corbett-Jones, the prosecuting lawyer, explained to the jury, “She removed her scarf and blindfold and to her horror discovered that she was not in bed with Kye – she was in bed with the woman she knew as her friend Gayle Newland, who was wearing a bizarre costume, which included the prosthetic penis strapped to her waist.”

Newland originally approached the woman via Facebook, creating a fake profile and convincing her that she was actually Kye Fortune, a half-Filipino, half-Asian man. In order to meet up face to face, Newland convinced her to wear a blindfold, insisting that she was embarrassed by her appearance because she’d had a tumour and also possessed a large amount of muscle wastage. When they met she also lowered her voice.

Speaking last week, the complainant explained, “Every time I met up with Kye Fortune, I either had the mask on already or he would wait outside the door and I would put it on. I was so desperate to be loved. It’s pathetic, so desperate for love, so desperate.”

The victim declared that she consented to sleeping with a man, not a woman wearing a fake penis, while also admitting that she’d been awfully naive.

Newland and her victim actually became friends after Kye Fortune insisted that they meet up. Kye explained over Facebook that he had a close friend who also lived in Chester, and that they would get on. After originally meeting, Newland and the woman socialized together repeatedly.

Newland, who is also aged 25, was found guilty of three counts of sexual assault by the jury, which consisted of eight women and four men. According to the Guardian, they took six hours and 11 minutes to reach their verdict.

Speaking after the decision, Judge Roger Dutton of Chester Crown Court told Newman, who, according to the Liverpool Echo, was openly distressed by the verdict, “You have now been convicted of serious charges. The consequences may be serious, I have to tell you that.”

Newland repeatedly uttered, “I don’t understand, I don’t understand,” after the verdict, while she also asked, “How can you send me down for something I haven’t done?”

Newland denied all charges, and insisted that her victim knew that she was was a woman at all times. Newland denied wearing a blindfold, strapping her breasts down, and wearing a woollen hat and a swimsuit. Instead, she insisted that the pair were acting out a “sexual fantasy.”

Speaking to the jury, Gayle Newland, explained, “She knew from the get go, from the beginning that Kye was a girl. My main reason why I spoke as Kye was for her. I knew better than anyone… if she wanted to hide her sexuality I would allow her to do that. The second reason was I had spoken as Kye since I was 13. I was not confident enough to come out and say I was a lesbian.”

Gayle Newland’s sentencing will be ruled at a date in November, while she will now be assessed by psychiatrists.
