Mike Epps’ ‘StandUpLive In Phoenix’ Comedy Violence: Beatdown Of Man Clowned By Epps Explained By Witness [Video]

Mike Epps ran into trouble when he recently performed in Arizona at the StandUpLive in Phoenix event. As seen in a TMZ video of the aftermath of the event, Mike is on stage, and a man who was in the audience was knocked out cold on the ground as a woman cradles his head. That TMZ video doesn’t show Epps’ actual routine, nor do any readily findable online videos show the entire Mike show and his interaction with the StandUpLive in Phoenix audience member who got beat up.

It’s something that comedian Johnny Jones says should be on tape — as Jones gave his rendition of what he says he witnessed that night at the StandUpLive in Phoenix event. Johnny believes all comedians, including Epps, should have filmmakers tape their entire routines, specifically because of incidents like this one.

Warning: The following YouTube video of Jones explaining what he witnessed at the Epps’ comedy show contains language that might be offensive to some viewers.

In his version of events, Johnny says that the StandUpLive in Phoenix comedy show started off with long lines and crowds and a lot of waiting that likely hyped up the crowd to an agitated state. Jones says he tried to make folks laugh in line.

Meanwhile, the man at the center of the melee got up to go to the bathroom during Epps’ routine, something Jones called the “cardinal sin” that audience members can do to comedians. Mike turned his attention to the man, but soon regretted his actions.

“I done messed with the wrong dude.”

Mike gave up the mic to the man, something Johnny called the comedian’s weapon. The man quickly joked about Epps’ Next Friday movie, which only scored 20 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

“When is the Next Friday coming out?”

It was a good question, but Epps gave no answer. Mike joked about the guy’s shirt, which TMZ showed was a plaid shirt that Epps quipped was reminiscent of Hootie and the Blowfish. Johnny said the guy talked really proper. The man went to bathroom and came back and sat down, something Epps noted.

“And this n****s back.”

Epps gave him the mic a second time, and that’s when jokes turned serious.

Hey Mike – Don’t get f***** up. You gonna get f’d up.

That’s when security and StandUpLive Phoenix security emerged. The man was talking too much, was too drunk, and too loud, says Jones. He said folks were trying to hold him down, trying to calm him down. Mike continually stopped security and said the dude was cool. Jones wanted the guy kicked out.

“Mike said the devil ain’t gonna get us tonight.”

Epps apologized to the man for any offense, but Jones said the alcohol-fueled man was either trying to impress his girlfriend or was too drunk, and wouldn’t calm down. Mike kept trying to cool him down and urged him not to go to jail or worse, but the man wouldn’t listen, reports Jones. Eventually, the man suffered a beat down.

“Don’t get locked up over a comedy show. Who gonna be on TMZ?”
