Kim Richards Gets Three Years Probation, 30 Days Community Labor, 52 AA Meetings For Public Intoxication Arrest, Shows Up To Court This Time [Video]

Kim Richards has been sentenced to three years summary probation, 30 days of community labor, and 52 Alcoholics Anonymous meetings as her punishment for her April public intoxication arrest. On September 14 in a Los Angeles courtroom, Richards learned her sentence, entering a no contest plea to one count of resisting arrest, reports Us Weekly.

Richards had previously made headlines for failing to appear at her last court date, asking the judge to allow her lawyer to appear on her behalf after Kim sustained a minor foot injury. She was under doctor’s orders to rest the foot for two weeks.

Kim also, at the time, rejected the plea deal put forth by the Los Angeles District Attorneys office, reported People. Although “conversations about a negotiated” sentence took place, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office confirmed that “the offer was rejected by the defense” in court. Kim Richards objected to “community labor,” preferring “community service” as part of her sentence.

Performing artist Chris Brown is another celebrity who has had to serve community labor as part of a sentence. In 2013, Brown was sentenced to 1,000 hours of community labor after his probation was reinstated as part of his domestic abuse guilty plea for beating Rihanna, according to a 2013 CNN article.

Brown reportedly was required to perform “beach cleanup or work for Caltrans, the California agency responsible for highway, bridge and rail construction and maintenance” as part of his sentence, according to CNN. There’s no information about whether Kim Richards will perform the same sort of community labor.

Although Kim did not appear at her previous court date, the judge accepted her excuse. A representative for the Los Angeles District Attorneys office explained at the time that Kim Richards “didn’t attend because she had some sort of injury to her foot,” but admitted the “judge accepted the explanation and allowed her attorney to appear on her behalf.” Richards did not receive a sentence during that court date.

In April, Kim Richards was arrested at the Beverly Hills Hotel for public intoxication after refusing to leave the hotel bathroom, reports Us Weekly. The Los Angeles Police Department spoke to the magazine at the time Richards was arrested, explaining, “[h]otel security requested to make a Private Persons Arrest and [Beverly Hills Police Department] officers entered the restroom and took her into custody.”

At the time of her arrest, Kim “was passively resisting,” and it became necessary to take Kim “into custody on Private Person Arrest.” While Richards was being booked at the Beverly Hills Police station, she kicked an officer. Because of her legal problems and substance abuse issues, Kim will not appear on the upcoming season of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
