Baltimore Ravens News: Terrell Suggs Is Gone For The Season With A Torn Achilles

The Baltimore Ravens not only have to deal with a loss in their 2015 NFL season opener against the Denver Broncos, but the team suffered an even bigger loss that will affect their whole season. Linebacker Terrell Suggs was carted off mid-game, and it was later confirmed that he tore his Achilles and will be out for the season.

Sporting News confirmed shortly after the Ravens’ 19-13 loss that Suggs did tear his Achilles and will not play again this year.

Midway through the fourth quarter, Suggs was coming around the end and approaching Broncos’ quarterback Peyton Manning when he stepped awkwardly. He immediately reached down to grab the back of his ankle and then down to the ground.

Suggs was carted off the field as reported by ESPN, and the injury was officially reported after the game. Ravens’ head coach John Harbaugh announced just how severe the injury was in his post-game press conference.

“It is a tough break for a player who goes above and beyond. He is a true leader and we really admire him.”

The Baltimore Ravens were looking to have a very good offense this season and a defensive line that could use some improvement. In the game against the Broncos, it was actually the other way around, as their offense sputtered and the defense played very well to contain Manning.

The loss of Suggs could really hurt the Baltimore Ravens’ defense, as he not only brings a lot of production, but also a ton of leadership. His veteran expertise will be missed and the Ravens’ defense is going to look very different without him.

Denver Broncos teammate Elvis Dumervill knows the loss of Suggs is going to be something that won’t be easily taken care of.

“It’s huge. You can never replace a Terrell Suggs.”

The Baltimore Ravens do have some depth at the linebacker position, but now they also have an open roster spot. Well, they will once Suggs is placed on season-ending injured reserve with the Achilles tear which has him done for the year.

It would not be surprising to see the Baltimore Ravens head out into the free agent market to possibly pick up another linebacker or defensive player. The loss of Terrell Suggs to an Achilles tear is a huge loss and will certainly shake up a defense that was already said to be a bit shaky from the start.
