‘Battlefield Hardline: Robbery’ DLC Releases Next Week

Battlefield Hardline, the latest installment in the popular Battlefield series of first-person shooter (FPS) games, has received an official release date for its Robbery downloadable content (DLC) pack. Fans can get their hands on the new DLC as early as next week.

Visceral Games, the development studio behind Battlefield Hardline, and EA, the game’s publisher, have announced Robbery will be released for Premium members on September 16, according to a report from CinemaBlend. The announcement was made through the official Battlefield Hardline Twitter account on September 11.

Attack of the Fanboy is reporting that non-Premium account holders will be waiting two weeks for Robbery. Meanwhile, the official Twitter account has been detailing the contents of Battlefield Hardline: Robbery as the clock ticks down to release.

The official Battlefield Hardline website describes the new gameplay experiences Robbery brings to the game.

“The theme of this pack is the Big Score: how to steal it, or how to stop it. The new maps and game mode in Battlefield Hardline: Robbery are designed to let criminal teams plan and execute the perfect heist; or, for law enforcement, to get the crooks in cuffs before they can pull it off.

The first new map, titled Precinct 7, appears to be a nod to the classic film Assault on Precinct 13. Another map, Break Pointe, seems to be an homage to 1991’s Point Break. Both are classic (but modern) cops verses robbers films, and the DLC is, from what has been seen thus far, very evocative of the genre.

This is the second expansion for Battlefield Hardline, which aims to transform the large-scale warfare of Battlefield into more of a Grand Theft Auto-esque urban crime scenario, albeit by generally putting the player in the role of the police. One has to wonder if Robbery has been inspired by recent events in America, as the country turns its focus from outside threats to internal accusations of unjust police actions.

While Battlefield Hardline: Robbery doesn’t add much to the game in terms of new weapons, gadgets, or vehicles, a police scout helicopter and a pickup truck have been confirmed as new vehicles for players to operate. The official Battlefield Twitter account has also been sharing a wealth of new camouflage skins for weapons for players who are interested in that sort of thing. A throwing knife, a vehicle healing item, and a “gas launcher” (whatever that might be) have also been confirmed for Robbery.

Finally, the game adds a new “squad heist” mode, a multiplayer mode described by CinemaBlend as, “identical to Payday 2 or GTA 5.” It’s a multi-stage mode requiring one team to pull off an elaborate bank robbery, while the other takes the role of police trying to prevent the heist.

All in all, Battlefield Hardline: Robbery should be a refreshing departure from the global warfare gameplay of the series and an entertaining add-on for players already enjoying Hardline. Premium Battlefield players can look for it this Wednesday.
