Pete Davidson Shares 9/11 Tribute To Fallen Father: ‘Can’t Wait To See You Again’ [Video]

Saturday Night Live‘s Pete Davidson tweeted a throwback photo Friday, September 11, paying tribute to his father, a New York firefighter who was killed on 9/11. Davidson was 7-years-old when his father, Scott Davidson, entered the Marriott World Trade Center hotel, and didn’t return after the Twin Towers collapsed, destroying the hotel.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Davidson first tweeted a photo of a young Pete Davidson with his father, captioning the photo with a crude joke. “Can’t believe it’s been 14 years,” Pete posted, continuing, “I remember seeing ur gigantic d**k like it was just yesterday. RIP Dad #NeverForget.”

Davidson soon followed up the questionable tweet with a serious tribute. Sharing a collage of photos from his childhood, Pete tweeted “All jokes aside. There’s not a day that goes by where I dont think of u. Ur my hero. Cant wait to see u again someday.”

Pete also paid tribute to his father over Instagram, sharing a third photo from his childhood. In the Instagram snap, a smiling 7-year-old Pete poses with his father, wearing a fire fighter suit, which is, of course, gigantic on his tiny body. Pete has an enormous grin on his face, while Scott bends over to fasten the fire fighter suit on his son.

In the caption, Davidson expressed disbelief it has “been 14 years. Over 2/3 of my life without you.” Pete confessed that it “feels like it was just yesterday.” Pete assured his father that there is “not a day that goes by where I don’t think of you. You’re my hero. Can’t wait to see you again someday. RIP dad 1/4/68-9/11/01 #neverforget.”

E! News reports that Pete has talked about his dad frequently in the past, using his comedy to talk about his father and his loss. During Justin Bieber’s Comedy Central Roast, Davidson quipped that he always regretted growing up without a father — that is, until he met Justin Bieber’s dad.

The social media tributes to his father come just after Pete Davidson celebrated his one year anniversary with Saturday Night Live. Pete joined the cast for Season 40 just last year, reports E! News, and quickly grew to be a fan favorite for roasting Justin Bieber as well as a hilarious play-by-play tweet fest during a Harry Potter movie.

When a fan asked if he had anything better to do besides tweet, Pete Davidson responded, “People asking me ‘don’t you have something better to do than live tweet Harry Potter movies?’ No, no I don’t.”
