Selena Gomez Is Happy With Her Body, Despite Comments From Body Shamers

Body shaming has become an epidemic. Slim, young, and gorgeous, Selena Gomez is the last person one would expect to receive hurtful comments about her body. Unbelievably, Selena was fat shamed earlier this year when she wore a bikini to the beach in Mexico.

According to People, the 23-year-old former Disney star-turned-sensational-singer did not take well to the negative comments. On a radio interview with Power 106, Selena Gomez talked about how it made her feel.

“You have to understand that I dealt with a lot of body shaming this year, and I’ve never experienced that before.

“Man, that hurt. That was really hurtful.”

Selena Gomez acknowledges that she’d gained some weight before the bikini photos were taken in April of this year. Rather than letting this get her down and lower her self esteem, Selena says she is happy with her body.

“I don’t care about that stuff, but I did start gaining weight and I didn’t really mind it. I enjoyed it.

“It’s not even about my weight. It’s just not that I’m not going to give a f— what people, sorry, I’m not going to care. I’m not going to let them get to me. I can do what I want.”

The cover of her new album, Revival, proves that Gomez is determined not to allow body shaming to mar her confidence. Selena’s body is showcased topless in a tasteful manner that is not graphic whatsoever. Pre-orders are now being taken for Revival.

Fellow celebrity Abigail Breslin came to the defense of Selena Gomez, and all girls who have been the target of body shaming.

“All this stuff about Selena Gomez online in her bathing suit is RIDICULOUS. I think if we all took the time we spend making each other feel bad about ourselves and used it to make each other feel good, the world would be a better place. Oh and also if we taught girls they had more newsworthy qualities than how they fit into a bikini, we’d have a lot more happy girls.”

Twitter was also overflowing with love for Selena.

Sending love to @selenagomez today. There are too many idiots out there who have nothing better to do than body shame & hate #spreadthelove

In a recent interview with Ryan Seacrest, reports the Huffington Post, Selena Gomez says she posted a bikini photo on Instagram with the caption “I love being happy with me yall. #theresmoretolove.”

“The reason why I did that was ’cause I didn’t want them to win. ‘Cause then the next day, it wasn’t about how I gained weight, it was about how I embraced it, and that’s just kind of my approach.”
