The last drawing on September 9 did not produce a jackpot winner, but more than $8.2 million in non-jackpot prizes were given away. According to the official Powerball website, three ticket holders in Georgia, New York, and Oklahoma won $1 million each because their tickets matched all five white balls (no Powerball). One lucky lottery player in Maine doubled the $1 million prize to $2 million because they paid an extra $1 for the Power Play feature.

The odds are slim (1 in 179 million) that you will win Saturday night’s $167 million jackpot, but there’s a chance that you could win a non-jackpot prize worth between $4 (match just the Powerball) to $1 million (match five white balls). While you wait for the numbers to be drawn tonight, check your tickets from the last five drawings to see if you have some extra money coming your way.

How much money will you get if you are lucky enough to win the September 12 Powerball jackpot? If you choose a one-time lump sum payment, you will receive the cash value of the jackpot — $106,300,000. Of course, that amount is what you will get before Uncle Sam takes his cut.

According to USA Mega, winners can expect at least 25 percent to be withheld immediately for federal taxes. State taxes will also be deducted if you live in a state that taxes lottery winnings. According to Fox News, winners in Puerto Rico may not have to pay federal tax on the jackpot — the current tax code exempts residents from paying tax, but the island has the ability to tax the prize locally.

Jackpot winners can also choose the 30-year annuity option and get their prize money split up into yearly payments. The annuity is based on the full jackpot amount of $167 million and the payout would be approximately $5.6 million per year.

Powerball tickets are $2 each and can be purchased in 44 states; Washington, D.C.; Puerto Rico; and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Most lottery agents stop selling tickets approximately one hour before the winning numbers are drawn at 10:59 p.m. ET.
