‘Trick ‘R Treat’ Sequel Is Finally Going To Happen And Is Already In Development

The horror genre is one that often lives and thrives off of sequels, even if all of them aren’t always good. Sometimes, they are downright awful, and other times, they keep the horrific spirit of the franchise alive. Trick ‘r Treat is one of those movies that fans have been dying to have a sequel of, and now there is some good news as it’s finally coming and is actually already in development.

Two years ago, director Michael Dougherty said that young Sam would be returning in a sequel for Trick ‘r Treat, but that never happened. Plans actually appeared to fall through and it seemed as if fans may never see Sam again.

Plans fell through because Dougherty got involved with the Christmas horror movie called Krampus which is set to release in early December. As shown by Wired, the demented Santa Claus flick just had its first trailer debut to rave reviews.

With Krampus having its release date on the horizon, he now has time to talk about other projects, and one of those happens to be Trick ‘r Treat 2. He recently spoke with IGN and gave fans an update on the whole thing.

“It’s going to happen. It’s just, the tricky thing is, as we were announcing Trick ‘r Treat 2, I was finishing the screenplay for Krampus. It was just too tempting to not do Krampus. If we didn’t do it, someone else was going to.”

Dougherty went on to say that he didn’t want someone else doing Trick ‘r Treat 2, but he also didn’t want to do it himself and mess it up. He said that there is a comic book coming out in October that acts a bit like a prequel and explores the long history of Halloween before the first film.

He wants to open the world of Sam a bit more and show how Halloween was shaped and guided by him. From there, it’s going to take time to take things into the sequel of Trick ‘r Treat, and that will first be brought alive in the comic book due out soon.

“The skeleton of the sequel is there, and right now it’s really four different stories – with the exception of Sam, who serves as that intertwining link. I do think it’s important that if you’re new to Trick ‘r Treat that you can sit down and watch it without the baggage of the first one. But that’s not to say that we won’t have some threads that tie everything together or maybe some characters from the other film might pop up in some fashion. Maybe some characters from Krampus might show up, who knows.”

With that, writer/director Michael Dougherty did reveal that a sequel to Trick ‘r Treat is indeed in development as everyone has hoped for and wanted. Yes, there is no real timetable as to when it will be released or even start production, but Sam is going to see more time on screen and it can’t come soon enough.
