One Direction, Rory McIlroy: Will He Join 1D’s Last Concert In Boston?

For fans that are part of the One Direction #OTRABoston Twitter fan club, there is one important detail that should not be overlooked.

Currently, One Direction is getting ready to perform their final North American show for their “On the Road Again” tour in Foxborough, Massachusetts, outside of Boston, on September 12. However, what happened to Rory McIlroy and his offer to sing with One Direction in Boston?

During the summer, One Direction was anticipating their final show to have a send off that fans would never forget by including golf pro Rory McIlroy.

Earlier in the year, CBS Sports reported that Niall Horan was able to secure the One Direction deal with Rory McIlroy. In exchange for a few rounds as his caddy, the One Direction star was joking around when he said Rory McIlroy should join One Direction on stage in Boston.

Regardless, Rory McIlroy took Niall Horan seriously, and the Daily Mail pointed out on April 12 that Rory was a bad singer — but it appeared that there was never an official promise broken concerning him singing with One Direction in Boston on September 12.

Now that the time has come, there have been surprisingly few clues from Rory McIlroy confirming that he will be singing with One Direction.

Sadly, there may be a reason for One Direction fans to sweat over Rory McIlroy canceling his September 12 singing date with Niall Horan. For instance, on Twitter, the last time Rory McIlroy made a reference to One Direction was when he went golfing with Niall Horan in Toronto on August 20.

Other reasons that Rory McIlroy may have to cancel are due to his slumping career.

On September 6, the New York Times reported, “Number one is slipping from a fading Rory McIlroy.”

Perhaps needing to work on his edge instead of performing at the Boston One Direction concert, McIlroy stated, “I’m just worried about getting my game in better shape so that I can compete and try and win golf tournaments.”

But will Rory McIlroy, who is from Ireland, be around Boston on September 12? As previously reported by the Inquisitr, the CBS Golf Channel explained that One Direction and Rory McIlroy will be able to coordinate their schedules in the Boston area and states the following.

“The [One Direction] concert falls a few days after the PGA Tour’s Boston-area Deutsche Bank Championship, the second leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs [where Rory McIlroy is playing].”
