Nicole Curtis: ‘Rehab Addict’ Star Robbed, Not Carjacked In Detroit

Nicole Curtis, the star of the HGTV show Rehab Addict, had a recent run-in with a thief.

There has been conflicting reports about what happened on Monday, with many news outlets saying she was a victim of an attempted carjacking, and others saying the ordeal was a simply “purse snatching.”

“She was parked in front of the garage at Larned and Griswold when a black Trailblazer pulled up in front of her,” Detroit Police Officer Nicole Kirkwood said, The Detroit News originally reported. “The suspect got out… reached in through her driver’s side door, and grabbed her purse.”

However, Curtis took to Facebook to set the record straight, titling her post “CORRECTION TO ALMOST EVERY NEWS STORY OUT THERE.”

She explained that a black SUV had been sitting in front of her car, running, when she started loading everything into her vehicle. She went on to explain that someone exited the SUV and neared her car, and then jumped into the driver’s side door. She said the thief reached for her keys, but she had them with her, and then grabbed her large work bag, which contained her laptop and several other items, before running off.

“CORRECTION TO ALMOST EVERY NEWS STORY OUT THERE:”

“I was with my family this week. A black SUV was parked running in front of our vehicle when we approached our car. As we were loading into the car, one of the passengers jumped out of the black suv, jumped INTO my driver’s seat -went for keys (they were with me outside passenger side) they then grabbed my large work bag NOT purse from where they were sitting in my car. It contained my laptop and several other items. Jumped into the black SUV and drove off.”

“I called 911 -I then walked a block to Where police were.”

“It’s unfortunate that the news decided to run their own version. It kind of reminds of that game telephone we played in Junior High”

“Be safe -be aware. And thank you for all the emails, texts, phone calls of concern.”

According to ABC7, Curtis is currently in Detroit, working with Quicken Loans to rehab the Ransom Gillis House in John R in Brush Park. Curtis is known for saving historic houses, “one fireplace at a time.” She works in Detroit and Minneapolis to restore homes on the brink of falling down to their former glory.
