Nightclub Refuses Black Woman A Job Because They ‘Need Less Afro-Caribbean Staff’

A nightclub in the U.K. has been forced to apologize for refusing a black woman a job on the grounds that they “need less Afro-Caribbean staff.”

The statement, which seemingly strives to singlehandedly shoot employment equality out of the window in one foul swoop, was made by Bambu nightclub in Birmingham, in response to jobseeker Leeta Lee’s prospective application for employment.

The whole sorry episode raised its ugly, prejudiced head when Ms Lee sent the club a Facebook message enquiring, “Hey, I was just wondering if you have any part-time jobs available?”

Expecting a simple yay or nay, Ms Lee was shocked beyond disbelief at Bambu’s unprofessional and insulting response which read, “Yes but we need less Afro Caribbean staff. Many thanks.”

FB-Message

As a generation of addicts consumed by social media know, what appears on Facebook, doesn’t always stay on Facebook.

After the message was read by a flock of furious Facebookers, The Birmingham Mail was contacted and inundated with people expressing their deep disgust at Bambu’s blunder.

The club wasted no time apologising to Ms Lee on their Facebook account and laid the blame for the racist remark squarely at the feet of an unidentified former worker.

“First and foremost we’d like to apologise to Leeta Lee for the very inappropriate reply she received to a vacancy request.

“We have stringent procedures in place with regards to our social media accounts and passwords associated to these.

“Unfortunately we were not able to apply these before a former employee managed to access our account.

“Many thanks to the Facebook operating team today for assisting with our dilemma and for helping to rectify swiftly.”

Bambu have claimed that lessons have been learned and that it would be reviewing the way it issued social media accounts to employees. The club also explained how, in its 13 years of trading, diversity is the very thing which has made the venue so special.

The venue stressed it would like to put this incident behind them and keep doing what they do best – spreading the love.

“We at Bambu are sincerely apologetic and extremely disappointed by today’s incident. We have nothing but love for the city of Birmingham and genuinely believe that 13 years of trading could not have been achieved without the diverse crowd this city brings.

“We have always endeavoured to create the ultimate party experience and will hope to continue to do so until you’re all fed up of us. Along with all our counterparts we hope to keep our lovely city of Birmingham up there in the best places to party in UK.

“We hope you all still love us as much as we love you.”
