Two Cops Post Offensive ‘Human Barbecue’ Selfie Following Shoreham Airplane Disaster That Left 11 Dead

Two police officers charged with guarding the Shoreham airshow disaster crash site may be fired after they posted an offensive “human barbecue” selfie to Snapchat following the horrific accident that left 11 dead. The officers allegedly posted a video selfie in front of the blaze with the caption “human barbecue” noted in a hashtag. The video selfie was sent to a colleague, who immediately reported the post to the Sussex Police.

The Mirror reports that the two officers responsible for the offensive message are now under investigation. The report indicates that the pair were guarding the site after a vintage aircraft crashed in a roadway during the Shoreham airshow. The crash claimed the lives of 11 people, along with numerous others injured. Despite the horrifying aftermath of the accident, the two Sussex police officers filmed themselves in front of the blaze and captioned the image, “human barbeque,” seemingly unfazed by the horror before them.

According to the Daily Mail, the offending message was sent via the social media app Snapchat, which is designed to automatically delete posts after the recipient views the message. However, the colleague apparently reported the offensive message to the department for review. In addition to placing a “human barbeque” hashtag on the post, it was also noted that the pair described the scene as the “biggest barbeque in Sussex.”

The police department claims they are looking into “gross misconduct” charges against the officers for the offensive message; however, it was noted that the officers have not yet been suspended. Instead, the pair have been placed on duties “away from the public” for the time being. Deputy Chief Constable Olivia Pinkney voiced her disappointment over the whole ordeal and says that she is upset she is having to investigate such a matter.

“I’m so disappointed and upset by having to investigate two colleagues for this. I cannot emphasise how upset I am that we are investigating such an allegation.”

She went on to note that the officers not only let down the department with the offensive message, but they also let down the families of the 11 people who died in the horrific tragedy.

“Two young in-service constables were working shortly after the Shoreham air tragedy and were on the cordon, some distance from the scene itself, and they videoed themselves. There was nothing in that video that showed any detail of the scene but very disappointingly they attached a message to that video which was inappropriate and it was offensive. Those officers have let themselves down, of course, but most importantly they have let down the 11 families of the local men who died that day.”

Do you think the police officers should be fired for their offensive “human barbecue” Snapchat message regarding the Shoreham air disaster?
