Jimmy Fallon Hosts An Emotional Justin Bieber On ‘The Tonight Show’ [Video]

Jimmy Fallon may have experienced his celebrity guests getting emotional during his time as the host of the The Tonight Show, but perhaps nothing will come close to last week’s confession by Justin Bieber soon after his overwhelming performance at the VMAs.

For those of you who might not know, Bieber broke down after a triumphant performance at last Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards. The singer, who has been criticized by some of his fans for his aggressive antics in the recent past, had tears in his eyes by the end of the performance, in which he mesmerized audiences by singing his chart-topping new single, “What Do You Mean?” According to People, when Jimmy Fallon asked Bieber his reasons for breaking down, the pop singer admitted that it was the reception of the fans that really overwhelmed him.

“It was so overwhelming for me, everything—just the performance. I missed some cues, so I was a little disappointed at that, and just everyone and just their support. I was, honestly—let me breathe for a second—I just wasn’t expecting them to support me in the way they did. Last time I was at an awards show, I was booed.”

That surely must have helped Bieber get some weight off his chest. He went on to confess to Jimmy Fallon that the tears were a spontaneous outpouring of a lot of his pent-up emotions.

“I think it’s just like I’ve worked so hard at this album, I’ve worked so hard at just becoming the man I want to become, and then stepping into situations, you just can’t help but feel judged. So, I was just feeling judged and wanting to win so badly, and just wanting to do what I love so badly that I just put everything on the line. And I think that that was what was so special about the emotional moment at the end, that it was authentic. It was real.”

Jimmy Fallon also referred to Bieber’s run-ins with the law, reports E! Online. The singer, who was probably at his most honest self by that stage, simply responded that his actions were in part influenced by the people he hung out with at the time.

“What it was is that I had a bunch of knuckleheads around me; that was pretty much it. [It’s] never good to have knuckleheads around.”

Well, we hope Justin keeps better company now.

The end of the show saw Justin Bieber lock horns with Jimmy Fallon’s in-house band The Roots’ drummer Questlove in an epic drum-off rematch. It was clear the singer had honed his skills with the sticks since his last showdown with Ahmir-Thompson, which took place in 2010. By the end of the rematch, Questlove jokingly suggested Bieber’s superiority by walking off the stage.

Justin Bieber left The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon a happy man. We hope he continues to feel that way.
