Katy Perry-Taylor Swift Rivalry Escalates From Squabble To Mutual Obsession

Katy Perry and Taylor Swift have been at odds for quite a while, but it was only recently that Swift confirmed the two singers are “obsessed” with besting each other.

The feud started a year ago, when Swift unexpectedly called out Perry (not by name, but it soon became obvious who she was talking about) in an interview with Rolling Stone.

“Oh, we’re just straight-up enemies,” Swift said in reference to Perry. “And it wasn’t even about a guy! It had to do with business. She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me.”

Katy responded by posting a viciously passive jab at Taylor on her own Twitter the next day, and the events that led to the now-obsessive Perry-Swift rivalry had begun.

During the time since, Perry has taken digs at Swift during a Billboard interview, Swift has released a Katy Perry diss song entitled “Bad Blood,” Perry has performed a counter-diss track called “Crocodile Tears,” Katy has made critical comments about Taylor’s opinions on Twitter, and the pair have never displayed any of the friendliness towards each other they did in the early years of their relationship. All the while, the two women’s careers grew and, according to Stuff, Perry and Swift became the number one and number nine highest paid female celebrities, respectively.

That brings us to modern-day, where Swift is promoting her upcoming album, 1989, with the specific aim of outdoing Katy Perry’s music. In specific, Swift is going after Katy’s record, an industry source recently pointed out to Page Six.

“She wants seven Number Ones. Katy tied Michael [Jackson]’s record for having five Number Ones from a single album, and Taylor wants to beat Katy. She wants to be the greatest.”

Swift has been sparing no expense in her pursuit of Perry’s success, holding private listening sessions of the album for radio promoters before the album came out last fall and, now that she is touring, inviting superstars like Alanis Morrissette and Mary J. Blige to join her on stage.

One can assume, though, that Katie is not going to take the assault lying down. Perry has demonstrated in the past that she is full of fire, especially when it comes to her feud with Tay-Tay, as she used to call Swift when the two were on speaking terms. Because of that fact, you can safely expect some juicy developments on the rivalry soon.

Whose side are you on in this back-and-forth? Or do you think Katy Perry and Taylor Swift should just bury the hatchet and maybe make a surprise appearance on stage together? Comment below.
