Emma Roberts On Her New ‘Scream Queens’ Friendships: ‘It’s Changed My Life’

Emma Roberts has played some pretty unsavory characters on American Horror Story and even Emma’s new Scream Queens role isn’t very likeable, but the real Emma Roberts is a polar opposite of those characters. In fact, Ms. Roberts reveals that friendships, particularly those she’s finding among her Scream Queens co-stars, are vital to her own happiness.

“Lea [Michele] and I keep each other in shape – we do Pilates,” Roberts revealed.

According to People magazine, Ms. Michele isn’t the only Scream Queens actress Emma has found an opportunity to bond with off the set.

“Billie [Lourd, who plays one of her sorority sisters] and I have sleepovers. We’ll call each other and be like, ‘Hey are you scared? Yep. Me too, I’m coming over.’ You always need that girlfriend you can get in bed with.”

Roberts also revealed that her new found friends have helped her on the set of Scream Queens, and Emma credits her new BFF Lea Michele especially in helping her to step up into the lead Scream Queens role. Emma said that, above all, Lea “grounds” her when she begins to doubt herself.

“The way Lea carried Glee was unbelievable. When we were filming episode five [of Scream Queens], I was so tired and nervous, thinking, ‘What if I can’t get it right? I asked her how she did it, and she said ‘You just do. You’re going to do it, and you’re going to do great,'” Roberts said.

It hasn’t always been this way for Emma, E! News reports, and Ms. Roberts has had to clear out the toxic people from her life before she was able to move forward with a more positive lifestyle.

“I think I’ve cried more about breakups with girlfriends than I ever have about boyfriends,” Roberts confessed. “But can I tell you: It’s changed my life. I only have girlfriends now who make me a better person.”

Roberts added that she now makes a conscious effort to be aware of the types of friends she allows in her life.

“Since I’ve turned 24, I really cleared out toxic people in my life. I only surround myself with people with work and with friends, people that are going to make me feel confident and make me happy and make me laugh,” Ms. Roberts said.
