Sam Smith Hints He’ll Sing New James Bond Theme Song For ‘Spectre’

Sam Smith may have just confirmed that he will be singing the theme song for the next James Bond movie Spectre, Gossip Cop reports.

The British crooner posted a black and white picture on Twitter and Instagram of his hand with a ring on it. It’s a pretty underwhelming photo until you notice that the ring has the octupus symbol that will feature heavily in the next James Bond movie, Spectre. Spectre is the nefarious agency that 007 fought against in a lot of the early Bond films and will be back for the 2015 film. The symbol has been used in photos and other marketing material for the new movie which is why so many are saying that it means Smith will sing the theme song.

Sam did not include a caption with the photo but it’s been liked over 80,000 times on Instagram so far.

Sam Smith fans seem very excited about him potentially singing the James Bond theme song.

“Omg omg spectre. Does this mean your singing the title song. Amazing,” one fan, nolin1982, wrote on Instagram.

“I knew it!!! Sam Smith is doing the theme song for the new Bond movie,” cboniec wrote.

The James Bond franchise is well known for their iconic theme songs which are played during the opening credits. It’s considered an honor for a singer to be chosen to sing the James Bond theme. In 2012, Adele won an Oscar and a Golden Globe for her performance of “Skyfall,” a song she recorded for the James Bond movie of the same name.

Musicians who’ve had the honor of singing a Bond theme include Shirley Bassey, Paul McCartney, Madonna, Bono, Alicia Keys, Jack White, Sheryl Crow, Carly Simon, Tom Jones, Nancy Sinatra, and Duran Duran, among many others.

Producers haven’t commented yet on whether the rumors are true, but the picture is a pretty major hint.

As the Daily Mail reports, Sam Smith has previously denied that he would be involved in “Spectre.’

“People seem to think I’m doing it but I have no idea what’s going on,” Smith told Capital FM. “I’m being deadly serious. I think I would know by now.”

He even went on to say that he thought Ellie Goulding would be singing the James Bond theme song. She’s been dropping hints that she may be involved in the production, too. According to the Daily Mail, Goulding posted a picture of herself leaving the Abbey Road Studios and captioned, “That’s a wrap.” Abbey Road Studios is the location where Adele recorded “Skyfall.”

Spectre is scheduled to hit U.K. cinemas on October 26 and will be released in the U.S. on November 6.
