Teen Dies At Sleepover With Soccer Teammates: 14-Year-Old Girl Dies At Sleepover, Unknown Health Condition To Blame?

A teen died at a sleepover with her soccer teammates Friday night in Voorhees, New Jersey. She was found unresponsive Saturday morning in the tent she was sleeping in, and the homeowners called 911. Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.

According to 6 ABC, Eastern Regional High School identifies the teen as Kara Lemanowicz. She spent a lot of time at Giangiulio Field as a member of the girls soccer and lacrosse teams.

A vigil was held Saturday night at Giangiulio Field.

Investigators don’t suspect foul play, drugs, or alcohol. It’s possible that the girl died from an unknown health condition. Results are still pending the outcome of the autopsy.

The head coach of the Eastern Regional High School soccer team, Jamie McGroarty, spoke with NBC Philadelphia. He’d known Lemanowicz since she was a child and describes this as “a heart-wrenching blow to all that knew her.”

The 14-year-old girl who died at a sleepover with her soccer teammates was going to start the year out as a freshman on Tuesday. McGroarty goes on to say that she was a lovable person who had a passion for the game.

“She was a goofy, fun-loving kid who always was smiling.

“She always played the game with a fun loving attitude and absolutely loved the game.”

A tweet from the Eastern Girls Soccer team stated that the teen who died at the sleepover “went to sleep with a smile and among friends.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Kara Lemanowicz’s family with funeral expenses. According to the message posted on the page, the teen was a well-like girl who had a lot of energy and made everyone feel good when she was around.

“Kara was an energetic, fun loving young lady who brightened everyones world with her presence. Her smile was contagious and her abundant energy and loving eyes told the whole story.”

As of this writing, $30,000 of the $40,000 goal has been raised so far on GoFundMe.

Aside from playing soccer and lacrosse, Lemanowicz participated in basketball.

Teens are occasionally in the news for dying tragically. Some are due to known causes, while others are mysteries. Far more are from horrific stories, but there’s a number of people like Kara Lemanowicz who die unexpectedly for unknown reasons. The teen who died at a sleepover with her soccer teammates is believed to have suffered a health issue no one knew anything about.
