WWE Rumors: Original Plans For Sting At ‘Night Of Champions’ Revealed – Had Nothing To Do With A Title

At Night of Champions in two weeks, the wrestling icon known as Sting is going to have his first ever title WWE Title shot. It may also end up being his only and last title shot in WWE as he is 56-years-old, but we will see. Rumors have been circulating about the company’s original plans for Sting at the next Pay-Per-View, and they were drastically different than what is currently on the card.

According to WrestleZone, the original plan for Sting at Night of Champions was to have him join up with Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose to face off with The Wyatt Family. This was actually the plan in place for SummerSlam, but about two weeks prior to the event, the plan was scrapped and it ended up as a tag team match.

PW Insider had reported that it was just a few days before SummerSlam that the Sting partnering with Ambrose and Reigns plan was scrapped again. That was when it was decided upon for Sting to go after Seth Rollins and the WWE Title.

The scrapped plans this time would have Sting partnering up with Ambrose and Reigns to fend off the Wyatt Family that has since grown to three members. Braun Strowman joined the group and now outnumber the former members of The Shield, 3-2.

WWE has already announced a six-man tag match for Night of Champions between the Wyatt Family and Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns, and a mystery partner. Some believe their partner will be Erick Rowan returning from injury.

Rowan has even been teasing a return on Twitter.

Another option for Ambrose and Reigns’ partner is one that may have been spoiled by WWE on their own website. On Saturday, WWE accidentally posted a picture on their main page that was a graphic for the six-man tag, but it didn’t have the missing partner.

Standing next to Roman Reigns is none other than Barin Corbin of NXT who has yet to make his main roster debut in WWE. The image was quickly taken down and replaced with the one that has a grayed out figure, but it was quickly captured by many with fast eyes on the site.

WWE has been teasing that Ambrose and Reigns will get a partner on Monday Night Raw, but it remains to be seen what will happen and who it will be.

Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns almost had Sting as their partner for two different PPV events, but it simply wasn’t meant to be. Now, Sting will fight Seth Rollins for the WWE Title at Night of Champions, and maybe somewhere down the line, fans will see Sting or Baron Corbin or Erick Rowan in the tag match.
