What Stores Are Open, Closed On 2015 Labor Day?

On Monday, September, 7, many workers have the day off from their regularly scheduled jobs. While many are resting after the holiday weekend, others have errands to run and want to spend their hard-earned dollars. As such, they have this question in mind: What stores are open and closed on 2015 Labor Day?

According to the USA Federal Holidays Calendar website, Labor Day is a nationally-recognized holiday in the United States that is celebrated on the first Monday of September every year. In an effort to “appease” the growing working class and labor movements, President Grover Cleveland declared the day a holiday on September 5, 1882. Today, many celebrate it as an end to the summer, while others simply enjoy the last three-day weekend of the year.

Over the years, retailers have changed their operating hours on holidays. That said, before you make a shopping list or head out to your favorite store, it’s best to know what stores are open and closed on Labor Day 2015. Check out the list of some of the more popular retailers

Target has operating hours during some holidays. Like most other big box retailers, it’s open on Labor Day for a variety of sales and deals. Back to school items are in demand and electronics like high definition televisions usually have lower prices and specials on Monday, according to the website, SavingAdvice.

Like Target, Walmart is open on Labor Day 2015. In fact, the world’s largest brick and mortar retailer is open everyday of the year except on Christmas Day. Shoppers can expect discounted prices on school supplies, electronics, staples, apparel and home decor items. Best Buy is also open and has in-store and online holiday specials.

Home improvement retailers like Home Depot and Lowes keep regular business hours on Monday. However, unlike co-op warehouses like Sam’s, which closes early on Labor Day (usually 7 p.m. local times), Costco is closed on Labor Day.

For university and regular school students, USA Today has an interesting post about seven back to school items that are on sale for the Labor Day weekend and holiday. The specials extend to items that range from clothing and books to electronics and more. For instance, the Apple Store has discounts on MacBooks up to $200.

As many stores have adjusted hours of operation, check with your local retailer for openings and closings on Labor Day.
