Creepy New ‘Doctor Who’ Teaser Is Released, But Where’s The Doctor? [Video]

In just two weeks, the new season of Doctor Who begins, and if that seems like a long time from now, then never fear for the BBC released a brand-new teaser trailer for the beloved science fiction series. The BBC also released an official synopsis for part one of the Doctor Who premiere titled, “The Magician’s Apprentice.”

“Where is the Doctor? When the skies of Earth are frozen by a mysterious alien force, Clara needs her friend. But where is the Doctor, and what is he hiding from? As past deeds come back to haunt him, old enemies will come face-to-face, and for the Doctor and Clara survival seems impossible.”

For a clip that’s only 19 seconds long, a lot of upcoming events are teased. The new clip of Doctor Who first shows a little boy wandering around in a desert, begging for help. In the desert are muddy hands, or the hands could be covered with tar rather than mud, with eyeballs in the palms. It’s a mystery as to what kind of creatures those hands belong to.

The Time Lord’s long-time enemies, the Daleks, also make an appearance in the teaser clip. A giant carrying an axe challenges the Doctor to a fight.

A creepy, hooded being demands to know where the Time Lord is, and Missy tells him no one can find him. She then presents Clara with what she claims is the Doctor’s last will and testament. Will Missy team up with Clara to find the Doctor, or will she join the Daleks to cause more trouble for the Time Lord? Only Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat knows for sure.

“This is the opening two-parter. It features lots of Daleks, and this time we mean it!” Moffat told SFX Magazine. “Clara receives a mysterious summons and has to team up with Missy to search for the Doctor in a very, very old place.”

The new season marks Peter Capaldi’s second year as the Doctor with Jenna Coleman returning as his companion, Clara Oswald. Also returning to Doctor Who are Michelle Gomez as Missy and Jemma Redgrave as Kate Lethbridge-Stewart.

As the Inquisitr recently reported, Alex Kingston as Professor River Song is returning to Doctor Who for the Christmas special. This will be the first time River Song will meet the Doctor in his current incarnation as Peter Capaldi.

Season 9 of Doctor Who premieres September 19 beginning with “The Magician’s Apprentice.” Part two of the Doctor Who premiere, titled “The Witch’s Familiar,” will air the following week.

What do you think of the new Doctor Who clip? Are you looking forward to River Song’s return? What other kinds of surprises do you think are in store in the upcoming season of Doctor Who?
