Davina Chapman, John Snyder: ‘Swamp Murders’ Examines Case Of Louisiana Woman Who Was Found Dead In The Atchafalaya River

The Davina Chapman, John Snyder Baton Rouge, Louisiana, murder case will air on a new episode of Swamp Murders.

Swamp Murders is a crime documentary series that airs on Investigation Discovery. Every week, it includes a new episode detailing the murder of a victim. This week’s case will dig deep into the events that led to the death of Davina Ann Chapman, a 32-year-old woman who vanished from a bar in Louisiana. Her dead body was eventually found in the Atchafalaya River in 2009. Her boyfriend, John Snyder, also known as Larry John Snyder Jr., was arrested for and convicted of her death. Currently, Snyder is serving his time in a Louisiana state correctional facility, according to WBRZ.

The case of Davina Chapman made headlines in July 2009, after her body was discovered in the Atchafalaya River. The body was found in a bad state. Chapman had been reported missing by her boyfriend, John Snyder, one day after she went missing. Davina was last seen on July 18 at Kelly’s Tavern, a local bar in Krotz Springs.

Onlookers say that Davina Chapman and her boyfriend had come to the bar to meet up with some friends and family members, but the night of fun took a sudden turn after Davina and John engaged in a heated argument. The pair ended up leaving the bar, but John later returned, saying that his girlfriend was missing. One person who was at the bar that night remembered seeing the missing woman’s sandal in the parking lot.

The St. Landry Parrish Sheriff’s Department launched a search for the missing woman. A person aiding in the search found her body. KATC TV interviewed John Snyder, who was crying and distraught over his girlfriend’s disappearance. Many who knew the couple stated that it was obvious to them that John Snyder was lying during the interview.

On the same day of the interview, John Synder confessed to the killing of his girlfriend. Investigators say that John became enraged at the bar and then kidnapped his girlfriend before tossing her already dead body over the bridge. An autopsy report stated that the victim had injuries to her liver and spleen. A check into the couple’s background revealed that the relationship was plagued by bouts of domestic abuse. Chapman had complained that Snyder was often violent and abusive.

Davina Chapman was a woman who loved her dogs, her friends, and her family. They say they miss her dearly but are relieved that John is spending the rest of his life behind bars — where he belongs. Previously, the Inquisitr reported on other Swamp Murders episodes, including the case of Suzie Knuth and Chester Wicker.
