Caitlyn Jenner On Ellen: Transgender Icon Opens Up About Her Past Opposition To Gay Marriage

Caitlyn Jenner is dropping a bombshell on Ellen, with clips of next week's interview revealing why the transgender icon once opposed gay marriage.

The interview is set to premiere on Tuesday, with Caitlyn revealing new details about her transition to live as a woman. Caitlyn said she doesn't miss living as Bruce Jenner, even though it was difficult opening up to her family about her decision to transition.

In her interview on Ellen, Caitlyn Jenner revealed that she was often conflicted as well.

"I have to admit that I remember 15 years ago, 20 years ago, whenever it was that the whole gay marriage issue came up, at first, I was not for it. I mean, I thought, 'I'm a traditionalist,'" she said, via the Wrap. "I'm older than most people in the audience. I mean, I kind of like tradition and it's always been a man and a woman. And I'm thinking, 'I don't quite get it.' But as time goes on, like a lot of people on this issue, I've really changed thinking here to 'I don't ever want to stand in front of anybody's happiness.' That's not my job. OK? If that word 'marriage' is really, really that important to you, I can go with it."

Before making the transition to live as Caitlyn Jenner, Bruce Jenner was always open about his conservative politics. In his coming-out interview with Diane Sawyer, Jenner said he has always identified as a Republican.

"Are you Republican?" Sawyer asked.

"Yeah," he said with a smile. "Is that a bad thing? I believe in the Constitution."

When Sawyer asked whether the conservative wing of the Republican Party would be accepting of a transgender role model, Jenner said that neither political party had a monopoly on "understanding." Jenner even suggested that he could meet with Republican congressional leadership to help boost the LGBT cause, CNN noted.

The gay marriage revelation wasn't the only big news that Caitlyn Jenner revealed on Ellen. She also opened up about her dating life, including what gender she might date in her post-transition life.

"This is, and we deal with it in our show, a tremendous issue in the trans community. It's a very big issue. So many of them today transition at a very young age and the whole dating thing comes in. Everybody wants to have a partner, everybody would love to have a family and for trans people sometimes that can be extraordinarily difficult to do," she continued. "And so it is an issue that's big in the community."
