Fans can watch the Mexico vs. Trinidad and Tobago soccer match live online and see how El Tri competes in its first action after a surprise run to the CONCACAF Gold Cup title.
Seen as a bit of an outsider going into this summer’s tournament, Miguel Herrera’s squad used a stifling defense to win its record seventh title. The 3-1 victory over Jamaica was also Mexico’s third title in the last four cups.
Mexico will now return to action on Friday, taking on Trinidad and Tobago in an international friendly match. The match is set to kick off at 10 p.m. ET from Rio Tinto Stadium in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Fans who watch the Mexico vs. Trinidad and Tobago soccer match live online will see if Mexico can continue its defensive dominance. The team was stifling during the Gold Cup, with Herrera telling BBC Sport that it was this ability to dictate the tempo of the matches that led El Tri to the championship.
“We’re very happy,” Mexico manager Miguel Herrera said. “We dominated the ball. We got the rhythm we wanted and controlled the play. It’s a great satisfaction for all of us.”
The tournament represented a turnaround for El Tri, which had a string of disappointing performances including an early exit from the Copa America after Herrera turned out what many considered to be a “B squad” roster.
Though there isn’t much at stake on Friday, there will be plenty to see for Mexico, including whether Javier Hernandez can turn around his struggling play of the last few seasons.
SB Nation noted as follows.
“Chicharito is coming off a rough spell of his career. Two years ago, he struggled at Manchester United. Last season, he struggled with Real Madrid. He’s had issues with injuries, and has been inconsistent with the national team. Things have not all been okay for one of Mexico’s favorite sons.
“Now, though, things might be turning to a new and brighter page for Hernandez. He’s with a new team now in Bayer Leverkusen, one that fits him like a glove. At least on paper, Ferretti’s new style for Mexico is one that suits him just as well. We might just be entering the Age of the Pea, starting tonight. If Chicharito has a strong performance today, which looks like a strong possibility, Trinidad and Tobago might as well pack it up and go home.”
