11-Year-Old Shoots And Kills 16-Year-Old Home Intruder In Missouri

A frightening story out of St. Louis County, Missouri, tells of an 11-year-old boy who ended up shooting and killing a 16-year-old boy who entered his home. It is believed that the teenage boy was an intruder coming into the house during an alleged home invasion, and he was met by the child with the gun.

The 11-year-old was watching his four-year-old sibling at the time of the home invasion, and they were there without parental supervision.

According to ABC News, Sgt. Brian Schellman said that officers responded to a report of a shooting on Thursday afternoon. The shooting was said to have happened at a home in north St. Louis County.

The home invasion happened around 2:20 p.m. local time on Thursday, 3:20 p.m. ET.

Police reports state that two people had approached the home in north St. Louis County on two previous occasions on Thursday. On their third approach, they attempted to enter the home through the front door.

The home intruders made it into the home and they were met by the 11-year-old boy who lives there. The young boy ended up shooting the 16-year-old intruder in the head, and police later found the teenager dead in the foyer.

A second home intruder had fled the scene after the shooting and was soon caught. As of Thursday afternoon, police were working on verifying the identity of the second home intruder.

All names of those involved were not released by the police. Authorities also did not release a possible motive for the home invasion, and are currently working to sort everything out, per Fox 2 Now.

The 11-year-old boy and the 4-year-old girl were not injured during the home invasion. Their mother was not home at the time, but she is cooperating with the investigation and helping police sort everything out. St. Louis County Sgt. Brian Schellman commented on how serious the situation is.

“It’s troubling to say the least and shows that too many young people have access to handguns and the results are usually tragic.”

Police are currently trying to verify identities and also figure out how the 11-year-old child got hold of the gun he used to shoot and kill the 16-year-old intruder. Sgt. Schellman has also said they are working to see if the gun was made accessible to the child or if he retrieved on his own.

An 11-year-old child shooting a 16-year-old child is tragic in any sense of the word, and knowing that a teenage boy was attempting to invade a home makes it even worse. Police are hoping to figure out much more about this case in the coming days.
