New ‘Star Wars’ Emoji Debuts On Twitter Ahead Of ‘Force Friday’

A brand new Star Wars emoji made its debut on Twitter Wednesday afternoon, ahead of the Force Friday celebrations coming September 4.

Just with like anything that is popular theses days, Disney is taking full advantage of the hype created by the anticipation with which fans are awaiting The Force Awakens, which lands in theaters December 18. The new Star Wars emoji is the latest, in a series that began to trickle out during the Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim earlier this year.

Remember when we saw Star Wars emojis for a Stormtrooper, C3PO, and BB-8? That was the coolest thing ever for fans and they couldn’t stop tweeting using the respective hashtags, which looked like this.

Star Wars emojis

According to Mashable, if you try any of the following hashtags, a Star Wars emoji will show up next to each name, #ForceFriday, #Resistance, #XWing, #StarWarsXWing, #PoeDameron, #PoesXWing, #OscarIsaac or #Jakku (even though this one shows a different emoji).

The release of the new Star Wars emoji comes as Disney’s massive PR campaign, Force Friday, is set be launched in a couple of days. The studio is teaming up with toy company Hasbro for the release of a new collection based on characters we will see in The Force Awakens.

Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner told analysts in July that the launch is scheduled with the holiday season in mind.

“What you see on September 4 will then be refreshed with new characters as we get closer to the film, as the film introduces people to new characters. We’ll then have characters that will follow that in time for Christmas and into New Year. And then you will have new waves of product and characters that will come in first quarter, second quarter and throughout 2016.”

But even before all of this, the recently updated Star Wars app allowed users to play with all the cool emojis related to the films. There, you can find many characters and spaceships from the original trilogy, the prequels, and The Force Awakens.
