The Scream Queens opening credits have been revealed, and they may provide a clue about who is hiding behind that red devil mask.
The opening credits show many of the Scream Queens characters being stalked and attacked by the mysterious serial killer wearing a red devil mask. However, Cosmopolitan points out that the names of a few of the series’ stars appear in the credits below even though their characters’ faces aren’t shown. These conspicuously missing actors and actresses are Jamie Lee Curtis, Oliver Hudson, Lucian Laviscount, and Nasim Pedrad.
Interestingly, the name “Oliver Hudson” appears over an image of the red devil in the Scream Queens opening credits. Could this be a way-too-obvious hint that he’s playing the killer who is stalking students on a college campus?
During an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Hudson said that his Scream Queens character has “a lot of secrets.” He plays a father named Wes Gardner who becomes an empty nester when he sends his 18-year-old daughter Grace (Skyler Samuels) away to college.
In a character profile on the Scream Queens YouTube page, Oliver Hudson reveals that Wes is also a professor who lost his wife a long time ago. He’s very close to his daughter, and it sounds like he’s going to have a very hard time letting her go.
“She is his best friend,” he says. “They are really connected, and he’s going through a really serious empty nest syndrome.”
It’s possible that Hudson’s name placement in the opening credits was just a coincidence or a trick to throw fans off. There’s even a chance that multiple characters will wear the red devil mask throughout the course of the show.
As ETonline points out, the credits give away another big plot point that involves Lea Michele’s character. In one scene, Lea can be seen rocking a neck brace and looking a little “unfabulous” (shout out to Emma Roberts). However, Lea is all glammed up when she pops up again, and she’s wearing something fuzzy and white. Her top looks suspiciously similar to the fur-trimmed coat that Emma Roberts’ mean girl sorority president, Chanel Oberlin, can be seen wearing in her scenes.
Lea Michele’s geeky Hester is obviously going to get a makeover at some point, but maybe it’s not just her look that she wants to change — perhaps the social reject also decides to change her social status by trying to replace Chanel as the president of the Kappa Kappa Tau sorority.
According to PEOPLE, Jamie Lee Curtis plays the college dean on Scream Queens, and she causes mayhem by forcing the school’s snootiest sorority to accept anyone who wants to join. This includes Lea Michele’s Kappa-obsessed character, who Chanel creatively nicknames “Neckbrace.” According to ETonline, Lea’s Hester is “an overly eager pledge who has studied absolutely everything there is to know about the Kappa Kappa Tau sorority.” Knowledge is power, so Chanel better watch her back.
Scream Queens premieres September 22 on FOX.
