Mike Huckabee Rushes To Defend Kim Davis For Refusing Gay Marriage Licenses

Presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee has come to the defense of Kentucky clerk Kim Davis, who has been causing a stir for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, despite the fact that it’s her job.

Mike Huckabee, known for his religious faith and strong Christian values, reportedly called Kim Davis to offer his support in the midst of all the angry social media buzz surrounding her controversial decision. According to the Washington Post, Mike Huckabee wanted to commend Kim Davis for “not abandoning her religious convictions.”

Mike Huckabee released a statement on the issue, openly defending Kim Davis despite her unpopularity among a huge percentage of American citizens.

“I spoke with Kim Davis this morning to offer my prayers and support,” said Mike Huckabee. “I let her know how proud I am of her for not abandoning her religious convictions and standing strong for religious liberty. She is showing more courage and humility than just about any federal office holder in Washington.”

Despite the hate Kim Davis has been getting, she does have a great deal of support from other conservative Americans who oppose gay marriage. Mike Huckabee, a former pastor, has always been a favorite presidential candidate among these voters, so it isn’t surprising to see him backing up a fellow Biblical literalist like Kim Davis.

“When people of conviction fight for what’s right they often pay a price, but if they don’t and we surrender, we will pay a far greater price for bowing to the false god of judicial supremacy,” Mike Huckabee added. “Government is not God. No man – and certainly no unelected lawyer – has the right to redefine the laws of nature or of nature’s God.”

The support of “traditional marriage” over “same-sex marriage” has been a major talking point of conservative presidential candidates like Mike Huckabee for many years. But since the Supreme Court decision to legalize gay marriage in all 50 states, Mike Huckabee has had a slightly smaller platform on which to base his political campaign.

In fact, the Supreme Court ruling is what started the Kim Davis controversy, because the deeply religious clerk was faced with the decision to abandon her convictions and issue marriage licenses to gay couples, or resign her position. So far she has kept her job and used the media attention to speak out against same-sex marriage alongside Mike Huckabee and other Republican candidates. She recently appealed her case to the Supreme Court, hoping to be exempt from issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples, but as the Inquisitr previously reported, the justices dismissed the appeal without much thought.

According to the New Civil Rights Movement, Kim Davis is still refusing to provide gay couples with marriage licenses.
