Lakers Guard Steve Blake, Wife Receive Death Threats After Playoff Loss


Los Angeles Lakers guard Steve Blake has been an unsung hero for his team in this years NBA playoffs. In game 7 of his teams first-round series against the Denver Nuggets he scored 19 points which in turn helped the Lakers claim a win. Now he’s realizing after a 77-75 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday how quickly fans can turn against him.

During game 3 of the Thunder series Blake missed a potential game-winning 3-pointer and after the game Blake and his wife Kristen were inundated on Twitter with foul-mouthed tweets and death threats.

As one below average intelligence Twitter user tweeted:

“I hope your family gets murdered.”

Kristen retweeted that idiots remarks with the simple word: “Wow.”

Blake’s wife then also mentioned that she had to block more than 500 people from her timeline because of similar comments while she quoted the a bible verse: “Pray for those who abuse you.”

After a Lakers practice on Thursday Blake said of the situation:

“It’s pretty disappointing that there are a lot of hateful people out there, but you move on. I just don’t appreciate it when it’s toward my family. You can come at me all you want but when you say things about my wife and my kids, that makes me upset.”

Steve Blake admits that he doesn’t pay attention to his Twitter feed and that it was his wife who noticed the threats against him.

Sticking up for his Lakers teammate was Kobe Bryan who tweeted:

“Lakers fans who said bad things to Blake and his wife on twitter — you should be ashamed of yourself.”
