Oscars 2016: Two People Will Host Show

It’s official: The 2016 Academy Awards will be hosted by two people. This isn’t the first time the Oscars have decided to let two people host the show.

However, the last two people to host the Academy Awards were James Franco and Anne Hathaway, and that pair was historical in that no one seemed to have a nice word to say about their hosting duties. People seemed to take better to the pairing of Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin, so having two hosts isn’t always a total disaster.

That said, it’s up in the air who the Academy Awards will choose to host, but let’s hope it’s something that makes sense like Martin and Baldwin, rather than something to shock, like Franco and Hathaway.

Producers David Hill and Reginald Hudlin told Entertainment Weekly in a statement, “There will be multiple hosts for sure—there will be two. Two is better than one. Just imagine, you’re in there. One of your hosts drops dead from cardiac arrest. What do you do? Second host goes on! And you keep going. … Note to self. Check out their heart rates.”

Hudlin said, “We have absolutely talked about duos. We’ve talked about a lot of different configurations. I love that David is a flamethrower, and I’m always way more secretive and tight-lipped. But we’re still very much in the brainstorming phase.”

So far, people have already started to suggest the popular pairing of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Though we should consider that they were very vocal about being done with their hosting duties for the Golden Globes, so it doesn’t look like they would have second thoughts about jumping ship to host the Oscars.

Here are other hosts that people are suggesting.
