‘Straight Outta Compton’ Acid Attack, Man Wounded After Screening

An argument during a screening of Straight Outta Compton ended with a horrific acid attack which has left a man in the hospital.

The incident occurred in Crawley, West Sussex, with eye-witnesses explaining that a disagreement inside a screening of the film resulted in an altercation outside of the cinema.

According to the Mirror, this ended with a 27-year-old being doused in acid, and now, the victim has allegedly been left with “potentially life-changing” injuries because of the assault.

Further details regarding the incident are still at a premium, but it has been reported that after watching Straight Outta Compton and then leaving the cinema, the victim was scalded with the acid in the cinema’s car park.

After being doused with the corrosive substance, the man was rushed to the nearby East Surrey Hospital where he was treated for his “potentially life-changing injuries.” After he had been stabilised, he was taken to East Grinstead’s Queen Victoria Hospital where he was examined by a specialist.

Law enforcement officials believe that the altercation between the pair, which occurred between 1:00 am and 1:30 am on Sunday, actually began during the screening, before it then escalated outside. Sussex Police have since released a statement on the matter, with a spokesman briefly declaring, “It is thought the incident may have started when the victim and another man, 29, also from Redhill, were watching Straight Outta Compton in the cinema.”

Crawely CID Detective Sergeant Laura Diamond, via the BBC, has since insisted, “This was an isolated but nevertheless nasty and unprovoked assault.” Police also released further details of the two people allegedly involved in the attack, describing them as two white men in their late 20s or early 30s.

Straight Outta Compton tells the origin story of NWA, arguably the most important hip-hop group in West-Coast history. The group included the rappers Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, DJ Yella, Eazy-E, and MC Ren, while the film also depicts how the group ultimately disbanded, as well.

Straight Outta Compton has already broken box office records since it was released back in August. It’s opening weekend haul of $60.2 million meant that it recorded the fifth-highest opening weekend total of all-time in August, and it was also the highest August total for an r-rated film too. Straight Outta Compton has also received sterling reviews by critics and audiences alike, although the film has also courted controversy for not mentioning Dr. Dre’s domestic abuse charges that date back two decades.
