Doctor Who Fans Are Getting A Song For Christmas

Relationships on Doctor Who are complicated as relationships would be on the near infinite x and y axes of time and space.

Entertainment Weekly reports that Alex Kingston will be returning to her role as River Song on the immensely popular British television time and space opera, Doctor Who, in the show’s annual Christmas special. The appearance on the Doctor Who Christmas special will stretch the fan favorite character’s span to three Doctors. The first time fans met The Doctor, she showed up on the episode “Silence in the Library,” which happened during David Tennant’s run of the show, an episode which is considered essential viewing by fans of the show’s modern era.

The last time that River Song appeared on Doctor Who, she appeared as a ghost comprised of data on the episode “The Name of The Doctor.” The Mirror says that this is the first time that River Song will meet her Time Lord husband on Doctor Who with Peter Capaldi’s current iteration.

Kingston offered her thoughts on appearing in Doctor Who for the Christmas Special.

“To be honest, I did not know whether River would ever return to the show, but here she is, back with the Doctor for the Christmas special. Steven Moffat is on glittering form, giving us an episode filled with humour and surprise guest castings. I met Peter for the first time at Monday’s read through, we had a laugh, and I am now excited and ready to start filming with him and the Doctor Who team. Christmas in September?, why not!”

The episode will apparently be full of famous guest stars, who will be steadily announced between now and the time that the episode premiers, but Steven Moffat feels that River Song’s return to Doctor Who will be the most special.

“Another Christmas, another special for Doctor Who — and what could be more special than the return of Alex Kingston as Professor River Song. The last time the Doctor saw her she was a ghost. The first time he met her, she died. So how can he be seeing her again? As ever, with the most complicated relationship in the universe, it’s a matter of time…”

Doctor Who will return to television this autumn, and the events of the show will lead up to the Doctor Who Christmas special, which will premier on December 19.
